The Film Show by Framed Network

Generally, we try as much as possible not to re-publish stuff and provide our readers with original content. It does mean a lot of work needs to be done to write thorough articles and it takes equally as much time. But in the end, it proves to be more rewarding as well. However, every now and then we find something so spectacular, not sharing it with our readers would be a crime. The amazing century-old color photographs fell into that category. And so does Framed Network’s project.

What is the Film Show?

The Film Show is a series of videos – or episodes – about photographers shooting with.. you guessed it. Film. And not just some photographers – they are young, sometimes silly and dorky (as they say themselves), they fool around a lot. And then come up with some staggering photographs in the process. In other words, world-class. I came upon these great series while checking out Jonas Peterson‘s latest work – he is my all-time favorite wedding photographer (along with Victoria Vaišvilaitė-Skirutienė, who is just a pure, overwhelming talent). The Film Show is created by Framed Network and is not the only project they are working on, so you might want to check their website and YouTube channel for more.

Jonas Peterson is one of the hosts of the Film Show’s season 2, along some other wonderful people. For those of you that feel skeptical about film in general, this show is not about film being in any way better or worse than digital. It is about the process of photographing, communicating with peers and sharing knowledge. About the art of photography and experience when working on assignments. It just so happens that the people involved love film and chose it as their tool. So if you want to skip on this just because of the word “film” – don’t. It is so much more even for the digital shooters out there.

The Episodes

I’ve already mentioned one of the hosts of Season 2. To get to know more about all of the photographers you will be seeing throughout the upcoming episodes, you should probably start with Episode 1. It is a sort of introduction to each of the five hosts – Ryan Muirhead, Tanja Lippert, Tia Reagan, Jan Scholz and Jonas Peterson. Here is the trailer for Season 2 Episode 1:

You can find the full Episode 1 by following this link, and Episode 2 that aired only recently by following this link. Of course, there is also the whole first season with around 10 hours worth of material.

Whatever it is you choose to watch, have fun!

Great to see this. You should also know that Ilford has just opened a film development lab for the first time in the USA. For non film people, Ilford is a UK company known for its photo paper (now sold off) and great B&W film.

No, they didn’t. They are just contracting out Swan Photo Labs in San Clemente to do the work. Swan (aka the Darkroom) has been around for decades. You can get the same services by either going through Ilford or straight through Swan.
