Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR Announcement

Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR

Just after Fuji announced its first weather-sealed wide angle lens, the XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR last month, the company has announced yet another killer lens to its arsenal, the Fujinon 90mm f/2 R LM WR. With its 135mm equivalent field of view in 35mm and a wide aperture of f/2, the lens is aimed primarily at portrait photographers who love being able to keep their subjects isolated from the background without introducing any kind of distortion to subjects’ faces. Thanks to a pretty complex optical formula comprised of 11 elements (3 of which are of extra-low dispersion / ED type) in 8 groups, a sturdy weather-sealed construction and the new Quad Linear Motor for faster autofocus, the lens will, without a doubt, be a solid performer. And at its $950 MSRP price tag, it will be a great addition for photographers who are already in love with lenses like the XF 56mm f/1.2.

Fuji XF 16-55mm f/2.8 Review

Fuji XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR

Since Fujifilm kicked off its X-series mirrorless cameras in 2012, it has been releasing a number of superb prime and zoom lenses to attract both enthusiasts and professionals to its camera system. Although until recently the Fuji lens line-up included a number of great zoom lenses, there was no professional-grade 24-70mm equivalent (in full-frame) choice available. Fuji changed that by introducing the Fujinon XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR in early 2015 – a high-quality, weather resistant lens with superb optical characteristics and tough construction for the most demanding photographers. Combined with a weather-sealed camera like the Fuji X-T1, the new generation Fujinon lenses like the 16-55mm f/2.8 are the top choices for landscape and architecture photographers who often face challenging weather conditions. I had the pleasure of using the XF 16-55mm f/2.8 lens for several months after it was launched and I was able to take it with me on several projects and assignments, so this review is primarily based on my field experience. Let’s take a look at the lens in more detail.

Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR Announcement

Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR

Today is a big day for Fuji, because the company has just announced its first wide angle weather resistant prime lens, the Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR. This is a pretty significant milestone for Fuji, because the lens is equivalent to a 24mm lens in terms of field of view on full-frame, which is a very popular focal length for many different types of photography such as landscapes, architecture and environmental portraiture. Being a fast f/1.4 lens, it is also a great candidate for low-light photography. On top of that, Fuji made this lens weather resistant to withstand both dust and moisture, so it will couple greatly with the Fuji X-T1 and future weather-sealed cameras.

Fuji 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS WR Initial Impressions

image 1

I’m Paolo and I have been a Fuji user for a little over a year now. Just like everyone else I was a DSLR shooter before but the weight got to me and I thought of trying unconventional brands. Started with the awesome but slow to “everything” X100 – that is before the firmware updates that made the X100 what it was supposed to be like, now. Anyway, that’s where my love and hate relationship with Fuji started. Well not really hate, it is such a strong word, more of frustrations which I have already gotten over with. I got my hands on a Fuji XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR this February in time to shoot the famous Cebu City’s Sinulog Festival “Pit Senor!”. Thank you Marie Dela Cruz of Fuji Philippines for letting me try one!

Fujifilm Lens Roadmap Update

Fujifilm Lens Roadmap July 2014

It would seem releasing great and very desirable optics has now become Fujifilm’s habit. Several months ago, we were very excited about Fujifilm’s updated lens roadmap – it promised we’d see some truly spectacular lenses. No myriad of only slightly different super-zooms, no tenth kit zoom to be seen. Whoever is responsible for planning future lens releases at Fujifilm, they are doing a mighty good job. And here’s some good news – the official lens roadmap has just received an update to shed some more information on what awaits Fujifilm X-mount system users.

Fujifilm Camera and Lens Savings

Fujifilm Camera and Lens Savings

Nikon is not the only one feeling generous lately. Fujifilm also has some savings for those looking to purchase a new lens or even a camera, and they are, arguably, more impressive than those offered by Nikon. For example, the extremely popular XF 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens is currently selling for less than half its original price. Other rebates include the X-E1 (body only or kitted with the Fujinon XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R OIS lens, it offers the most impressive savings), X-Pro1 and the lower-end bodies, and almost all primes lenses along with the Fujinon XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R OIS zoom lens.

Official Fujinon XF 10-24mm F/4 Image Samples

Fujinon XF 10-24mm f4 R OIS Lens

The rate at which Fujifilm X-mount compact camera system is growing is simply remarkable. I admit, I am very drawn to the system and really like what Fujifilm is doing (thus pardon any subjectivity that might creep in at times). To think that it was launched such a little while ago and yet already has such a versatile selection of cameras and lenses, it is beyond what we’re used to seeing in modern digital camera market. The two most recent Fujinon lenses – the XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS and XF 56mm f/1.2 R – filled in what was arguably the biggest gaps in the system. The first one addressed the wide-angle issue in what we think is a very well-sorted package, while the second finally offers both the aperture and focal length suitable for close-up shallow depth-of-field portraiture. We are excited about both these new lenses along with the XF 23mm f/1.4 R and those soon to come.

Fujifilm Updates X-Mount Lens Roadmap

Fujinon-lens-roadmap-2014-2015

It seems like ever since the first Fujifilm X-mount camera was launched, the X-Pro1, we can’t help but admire the progress Japanese manufacturer has been making. And it is not just the release of well thought-through line-up of cameras Fujifilm’s relentless attempts to improve models with firmware updates. Not just the pleasing design or quality of lenses. It is also what they have in store for us in the upcoming year. Fujifilm has just updated its X-mount lens roadmap for 2014 (and the start of 2015). And it looks bloody brilliant.
