I just bought the Sony x100 iv, thanks to you… I saw your perfect, beautiful pictures and didn’t hesitate anymore to buy it! I just have a few questions. I played with it the whole evening to understand all the settings etc; I’m not a photographer, and there are a lot of things that I don’t understand. I’m on a world trip right now, and really want to try your settings for landscape photography. So can you pleas explain the difference between F1.8-2.8 and f/5.6? If I’m right F1.8 or F…. is about the light? But what about the other f/? Where can I find this in the settings? And how can you change the shutter speed when it’s on M mode? I really can’t find it, even if I searched for an hour :p Hope you can help me. Thank you in advance!
Many greets,
Bill S.

Thank you for the excellent and insightful review. Give a choice between this handheld and a full frame DSLR with the Tamron 28-300mm, what would be your choice for a day out just walking and casually shooting?

Made in China and excellent build quality is oxymoronic. I dropped a iv model sitting in a chair to the patio floor once, about two feet, and that was the end of it.

Hi Nasim, I was thinking of buying the newer RX100V, because on paper (specs wise) this camera is the top of the top of Compact (Travel) cameras. But after looking up images on Instagram and Flickr, I was very disapointed by the overall quality of the photos. I know it’s a tiny camera with a small sensor, but still, I could hardly see any difference with my iPhone 6 pictures. But then I came across this article and I was amazed by your photos. I don’t think I could do that with the iPhone 6. :) I’m still having doubts though… I wish Sony would make the RX100 just a little bigger and put a APS-C or MFT sensor inside :)
I you liked what you read (and saw) in Nasim’s review – but you’d prefer something with ergonomics more like an APS-C DSLR – then I suggest you take a look at the Sony RX10 ii (or iii).

Everyone is just trying Sony Rx100 camera’s for landscape shots. Can you please share some portrait shots with background blur and bokeh? Comparing Rx100 M4 and M5 with M2 or Canon G7x M2 with focal lenght of 100mm, can we use the digital zoom to achieve the same results as below?
Great review and stunning (persuasive) pics that hint at possibilities with this camera. I normally shoot full-frame Canon, but am not strong enough to carry the 3kg gear involved on 7+ day expeditions. What I am wondering is about the long-exposure capabilities of this camera. I note that everything was shot with a mighty fast shutter speed, whereas I’m always looking to slow the shutter speed down to get cloud or water movemenr. Could you comment on this please?

Dear Nasim, I have just acquired a RX100 III, I was going to get the M4 but due to the heat issues, whether true or not went for the M3, I use a D300, D700 and D3s for shooting sport so want this as my walk around and for shooting video at games etc. Thankyou for your information and opinions, they are very helpful.

Hi Nasim, Very detailed review of RX100 iv accompanied with some very great photos . Thanks. I have a DSLC APs-C Nikon D7200 and have been thinking of getting a point and shoot camera also. Now that RX100 V has been released, would you recommend that over RX100 IV ? Regards,
