With a simpler camera with only one big focus confirmation dot, focus the lens just a little closer until the dot just starts to turn off — but that’s for my sample of lens; yours may be different.
It’s similar on my PENTAX KP camera. Good suggestion.

Hi Nasim, Ive been looking at this lens for a while but am still undecided. This was a very detailed and excellent review. I’m also looking at the Canon f2 as I don’t want to spend all the extra money on the more expensive Sigma or L series lenses. How would you compare the Samyang with the Canon f2? Also, were your shots handheld or did you use a tripod? I own the Rokinon 35mm ds cine lens but it is near impossible to get tack sharp shots as a photo lens without a tripod or bracing your body against something. I’ve been also considering the 24mm f1.4 but as of yet it only has the AE chip for Nikon and I’m shooting a Canon 5D MarkII so that’s a big deterrent for me. Anyways thanks for the great review.

Nasim Thanks for this review that had just enough detail. I find your comparisons especially helpful. For instance, the $500 I saved after reading your Samyang 35mm 1.4 review went to travel. Cheers, and keep up the fine work and photography. Jim

I only use manual focus so that aspect of the lens doesn’t bother me, but I hear a lot of reviews that say it is not good for photography. For that price point and great quality though, I really am considering buying it for photography purposes. Would you recommend it?

Found one of these on eBay for $160 US, I’d never heard of the brand. After reading this review, I’m BUYING.

Nice review, but I’d like to know if the hard stop at infinity focuses properly.

Thank you for this review. I am curious to know how well this lens compares to the Nikkor 35/2 AF-D lens. I think it would be interesting to see how they compare at f/2 and f/2.8. The only point in buying a lens like this Samyang would be to use it at the larger apertures (f/1.4~f/2.8) so maybe we should see how it does against the less expensive lenses there.

Nasim,
Have you done a Imatest run on the Zeiss 35/2 on the D800e? If so would you include it in the review & comparisons? I am on the fence about what 35 to buy for my D800e …. I currently have a Samyang 35/1.4 that I am somewhat happy with but am looking seriously at the Zeiss 35/2 or Sigma 35/1.4. I really love the Zeiss rendering (have 21/2.8 & 25/2.8) just wondering how the 35/2 stacks up to the others. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
