I will move from D750 to Z7II. While I understand the ‘struggle’ that higher resolution cameras have in low light versus low resolution cameras, any ideas on how to offset that disadvantage regardless of the superior performance of the Z7II in most other aspects as noted in Section 5? I know that some of the low light performance of the Z7II can be worked around in post processing.

Hio Nasim,
May I know if the autofocus system for the ZII is similar with the one from Sony and Canon after the firmware upgrades?

On my d750 in A mode, I could use the back wheel to change ISO. I have not found this to be possible with my Z7ii. Instead I have to find that tiny ISO-button on the top, which takes a couple of seconds that may be crucible. A solution, anyone?

Love the camera but we aware there are irritations. Eg the manual is virtually pointless and certain clones do not work eg a couple of en-el 15 batteries ( don’t know about clone 15cs) that work in a 7100 are not accepted and the Meike 910 flash gun does not work with TTL and probably other clone accessories. Be prepared to pay to get the best from it.

I shoot some runway fashion. The Z7 ii paired with the 70-200 mm f/2.8 S lens fits this very well. On longer runways, you need to crop even when shooting at 200 mm so the 45 Mp is helpful. No tripods in the pit so the combination of IBIS and lens VR is very helpful. Movement is very predictable, so the ability to maintain focus and shoot short bursts is better than I achieved with my D850. Sharpness and color with this native lens is as good as any other combination I have owned. I agree it is not a great bird or action camera, but I prefer the Z7 ii with a native lens to any of the DSLR I had for fashion runway assignments.

Great review! I wonder how this camera compares to the fuji gfx 50r. Which do you recommend? I mainly do landscape and portrait photography. I wonder how the image quality compares.

Thanks for this great review. I stumbled on it while trying to determine the Z7ii JPEG file size. I enjoyed the comparisons to other cameras. Wonder how you compare the Z7ii to the Sony A7Riii (yes, I indicated 3, not 4). I ask because this version of the sony more closely matches the MP sensor size of the Nikon Z7ii. I have learned a bit about pixel pitch and how that impacts dynamic range and light sensitivity. I am more apt to go with the Nikon over the A7Riii because it is a bit newer model although a different brand. But, at the moment, they both are higher rated on DXO mark, than the Sony A7Riv or even the Canon EOR R5. All depends on what is important to the photographer. I need image quality and the ability to crop. I am not as concerned about max FPS and not interested in Video at all. But, I do want the best in auto-focus. Sony has great auto-focus, but their manual focus interface is lacking. Thanks again!

GREAT REVIEW. I’m kinda reentering the photo landscape after a wee bit sabbatical. Having tough time making a decision between nikon z7ii or sony a7r4. I tend to lean towards wildlife/portrait and some landscapes. Any suggestions? Thanks for the great site and information.
