Also for me the 24mm is my most used lens. I think this lens is introduced around 2017 and it is now 2022 and the 24mm 1.8G is still among the best 24mm that Nikon has made. ( and i have used a lot of them) The S-line introduced a new 24mm 1.8S that has about the same optical quality but a better built. I am eagerly waiting for a real improvement, but a 24mm 1.4S is not even on the horizon and the 14-24mm S is worst at 24mm and f2.8. As said in this review it is a good lens, but i would like to see improvement at the sides and it misses the clarity of my beloved 40mm 1.4 sigma Art – a lens that really shows what a stellar lens can do on 35mm with 45MP and more. PS for me it was very important to adjust the focus of the 24mm 1.8G to even +18! so beware of that. test and adjust.

Thank you for your excellent review. I read this review, and a few others, before getting this lens. Many other who did comparisons recommended the Sigma. What decided for me was first of all the better corner sharpness of the Nikon. I like to put my subject in the corner of the frame when shooting wide.. The other was that I prefer a compact and light lens. When it arrived, the first thing I noticed was the excellent sharpness and on my D750 focus was spot on. This lens actually make a couple of my longer Nikon primes look soft in comparison! I don’t know why this lens seems to be less popular. It is a gem!

Is Nikon 24mm f1.8G better for weddings ? I already have Nikon’s legendary 24-70 f2.8.

Hello Nasim,
I am a beginner in photo, I shoot with the D5300 and the Nikkor 35mm 1.8G. I love it, but sometimes I wish I had a bit wider lens because I can’t always step back, and I love the look of a wide lens as well. This Nikkor 24mm 1.8G looks good to me, your photos with the d750 are amazing. But I read that the Sigma 18-35 1.8 is a beast, even from your review. And from the graphics, it seems that the Sigma performs better than my Nikkor 35 and that 24 Nikkor ! Since they are at the same price (about 600 euros), I am a little bit lost. I truely love that 24 Nikkor, and I know it will be a good 35 equivalent on my d5300, without any vignetting or distortion issues, but the Sigma could offer the same, and more since it is also a 27 and 50mm equivalent. Can you please advice me on this one ? Thank you very much, love your reviews and photos.

Dear Nasim :) Finally, what you recommendation for D5300 owner? 20\1,8 or 24\1,8? Street, landscape, travelling…

I have read the reviews multiple times on the 20mm, 24mm and 28mm Nikon f/1.8’s and want to know which of the three you would suggest for a Nikon D850? My budget will allow for only one of these. Landscapes are my main photo ops. Thanks……….FRED

Nasim,
Very useful review. But, when viewing these images on a 27″ mac, is there a significant difference between an image shot with 1.4 or 1.8 lens? Are the microcontrast, colors, and rendition any different? Is the 1.4 mm image necessarily better?

Excellent review. As an on owner of the 24/1.4g and all the other f/1.4 lenses, and as someone who has also developed carpal tunnel syndrome, your comments really helped me to make the decision to downsize my gear (literally). I’m so happy that Nikon has given us this option.

I purchased this lens to replace my 35mm 1.8 DX lens and I am thrilled with it. I have a wider angle of view (36mm) and it works perfectly for low light photography. I used the 35mm 1.8 DX a lot and can testify I am much much more pleased with the results from the 24mm 1.8 G shooting action in dance clubs, live music bars and on the street. I just have to use my feet to frame it. For any thing else, I have my 70-200 2.8 VR II. The 24mm is a fantastic value.

Thank you very much for this review Nasim. Very helpful and detailed. I’m still stuck with this 24mm prime or the 24-70mm 2.8 Nikon non VR or Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 G2. Whats best? Thanks
