I own this lens on a Nikon D3400 camera, but the lock doesn’t seem to work in the lens closed position i.e. the lens can turn, but when the lens is opened, it will lock to prevent closing is this correct

I own this magnificent lens, in 2024 it is now extremely hard to find anywhere in the western hemisphere, I picked up mine in Dubai. And as the reviewer previously stated some of the limitations with this zoom in Lens comparison, the fix is actually quite easy and a lot cheaper than the ($500 upgrade to the 16-35mm f/4, and $1500 cheaper than the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G). Simply couple this lens with an IBIS body camera (or as I did with the incomparable Nikon D850) and throw on a Nano Filter infront of this lens, and the results will out stand anything out there.

Both the IMATEST & DXO have this lens ahead of the 16-35mm f/4 & Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G, where the nikon-18-35mm-f3-5-4-5g out performs the latter both @18mm & @24mm.

As you can see I can’t say enough about this lens. Best Value and Performance in its range hands down.

I love to see the Lens Comparisons pages here at Photography Life, as it is quite difficult to find a Zoom Lens sweet spot without concreate measurable evidence, then it is mostly guess work and feelings.

So taking a look at the MTF… is this lens at 20mm sharper than the 20mm 1.8 ED?

Thank you for your review.
Regarding image quality, how much it loss versus a prime, ex. Nikon 24 mm 1.8? Thanks in advance.

Why are you constant posting review pics for a full frame lens with a crop sensor camera? I’ve seen you do this too often. Makes no sense and completely off track to the rest of your otherwise good reviews Just use a full frame camera since crop uses more of the center lens and gives different results. Please

I own this lense but I find the corners pretty disappointing at 18mm

I am planning to buy this Lens with a D810/D750. I have to decide between it and the Nikkor 20 mm 1.8G. In the above review I am surprised that so many photographs are with a D7100 not a FF DSLR ? For a beginner to FF using a Nikon DSLR like the D810/D750 will the 18-35 f 3.5-4.5 G be a good start for Landscape and Street photography ?

I’m sorry Nasim, but I’m lost: what is the purpose to review FX lens on DX camera??? Just to make all lines perfectly straight? What a waist of time! Trying to decide between 16-35 and 18-35 and the review is useless……….

Kestas, only the sample images presented in the review were shot with a DX camera. All lens comparisons were done on a full-frame Nikon D800E DSLR, so the comparisons to other lenses are still valid.

Yes. I too am confused. I was expecting the samples to be shot with D800E/D810 ? I plan to buy it for my D810 in future.

If I do interpret your MFT charts correctly this lens outresolves the Nikon 1.8 24 G at 24mm?
