Hello ! I tried this lens only for comparison with 10-30mm pd-zoom while shooting at night and filming in day light and the result was a big surprise : it performs way better than 10-30mm pd-zoom in low light : 2 seconds non-blurry photos with the 10-100 allowed easily handheld with no effort, by night. In day light it is sharper and it performs seriously good at maximum telephoto by night and by day. This is for photo test.
Concerning video : autofocus is fast, silent, zoom is fantastic thanks to the buttons. It is a pure marvel. Nothing compares.
Except for the size for those looking for little lenses I can see no issues !

Hello! I have today a 10-30 30-110 and the truth is that you cover all the possible photographs but sometimes it is annoying to change both the lenses! the question is with the lens 10-100 is achieved the same range of captures that with the sum of the two lenses or before a new purchase is preferable the two separate lenses?
My wife loves the 10-100mm reach as the perfect travel lens, on the V1. I gave my sister a J5 with the two lenses, 10-30 & 30-110. She has missed shots because of lens swap, but likes the image quality.

Great review. One quick question – now that this lens is available at near enough half the launch price – does the reviewer think it’s a worthwhile replacement for the 10-30 & 30-110?
I recently purchased the 10-100 PD zoom, even though I also own the 10-30 and the 30-300. I was able to get a terrific deal on the lens ($249 CDN at Henry’s)….at that this price it is a ‘no-brainer’ purchase.
I mainly bought it as a great tool for my client video business (I shoot with a D800 and a Nikon 1 V2). The zoom is beautiful and can be controlled very nicely.
Another benefit of the rather large size of the lens, is that I can easily mount my regular 77mm polarizing filter and variable neutral density filter on it with a 72-77 step up ring. This is a wonderful lens for general landscape photography because of the zoom range…and being able to easily mount the filters I usually use with my FX glass on it.

I own this lens and I use it for video mostly. Optically, it is excellent, and of course, the 10-100mm reach is all one really needs. It does need practice to get to autofocus right (eg leaving face recognition on will make the lens hunting when the logarithm thinks it found a face in a landscape, or when filming crowds of people). Also, when setting apperture to f5.6, there will still be jumps in exposure when zooming from 10mm to 100mm, while it shouldn’t (when in manual mode).
I’ve found that when shooting video with the Nikon 1 lens it is best to always shoot in manual mode and to never use the auto ISO settings, as the auto-ISO can also cause some inconsistencies in exposure. Always pre-select your ISO as well as your manual shutter speed and aperture settings.

Very nice Job, dow you if the 10-100 vr has a 3 axes stabilisation or just standart ? seem like the sony Nex 18-200 have a 3 axes, is very interesting for “steady cam” action.

I don´t know if it´s something wrong with my new Nikkor 10-100 or with me but with the lens even not so near to my ear I can clearly hear the lens make noise while zooming, especially while zooming fast. And yes, it focuses without any sound

I really enjoyed your review, thanks for taking the time to put it together ! I’m still riding the fence in regards to my second lens for the V1. I have the 10-30 and I’m stuck between the 10-100 or geting a 70-300vr for use with the FT-1.

how can i possibly mount this lens on an F-mount camera?? (mine is D90)
You can’t and if you could you wouldn’t want a CX lens on a DX body.

It seems that Nikon still has to improve their products a bit. The J1 also had some issues with their software, which, hopefully, will be resolved with an update.

Your review really helped me understand the difference between these new Nikon 1 lenses. I really appreciate the time you took to prepare this review. This review gave me some much needed perspective. I thank you for that.
