Fore sure this is Fuji’s finest lens. A masterpiece of Fujifilm Technology.

Earlier today I tried to update my original 16-50 with the 16-50 ois ii firmware…nope, doesn’t work. That is how I learned there are two different versions of this lens.

Thanks for doing these lens tests, but I don’t understand how to interpret the Imatest scores. If one lens has a test score of 1900 and another is 2400, whats the formula to see how big of an image you would need to be able to see this difference? thanks.

I have the first version of this kit lens. It is all plastic, the bokeh is quite nervous but the resolving power is impressive, really. I have several Fuji prime f/1.4 lens and with a side by side test the results of this kit lens are very strong even in the extreme borders. I test it versus 18-55 and this plastic kit lens is superior to this more expensive lens. Nasim, because I need a more powerful zoom lens, will you ever test the new 16-80mm f/4 ? Someone says it is a bad lens, others like it. A professional test would be great!
Marcus, it was a susprisingly good lens to test and review for sure! Not a resolution champ, but certainly gets the job done – and super light for travel!
Yes, the 16-80mm f/4 will be reviewed fairly soon, like all other Fuji X lenses I have used so far. So lots of Fuji reviews coming up next week!

Excellent review. In fact, I was a little surprised you’ve decided to review this now discontinued kit lens. I think it’s a great performer for the price, especially that I bought mine for EUR 75 used.
It’s not too late, there’s still plenty of them circulating the used market! Although yes, it’s a shame they discontinued it as I prefer it to the newer 15-45 – it’s also said to be very good optically but I’m not a fan of the power zoom feature.

Yoan, I should have reviewed it earlier, but I guess – better late than never :)
Certainly great value. Too bad Fuji discontinued it, as it was a great little kit lens.
