What in camera JPEG settings you would recommend to get best JPEG’s out of camera, also shooting with high iso? About processing, how much should i sharpen, do noise reduction on pictures taken with X-M1 (all X-Trans sensor cameras)?
Thanks.

Nasim, very informative, great and useful review. but can u help me with choise. I can buy a new Fujifilm X-M1 or used Nikon d300s with 50mm 1.8 lens. which would be great for wedding shoots? I heard about Fuji X high iso productivity, but it’s focus speed is not as good as in nikon d300s.
P.S. sorry for my English :)

Great review Nasim!
Just bought this camera as a small alternative for my Nikon D700 with pro lenses gear without losing to much image quality. With the 16-50 lens, at least to start with.
I have a question. Are the issues with the RAW processing in Lightroom solved by now?

Great review fair and honest. I am a convert to Fuji, I started with an X100 (sadly sold) now I have an X-E1 with ‘kit’ lens and the 35mm (wow)
Thanks to this review and the sample images, I have just placed an order for the X-E1 to compliment the X-E1, in the UK Fuji are offering a free 50-230mm lens so it’s great deal.
Sounds a bit simple but this will be better for taking photos and video of the kids with face detection and the nice tilting screen
Thanks for the time and effort you put in to the great review and site

Hi, nice review there :)
I would like to ask for an opinion. I’m intending to buy Fuji x100s and after looking X-M1 review, it is not a bad camera too. In fact, almost same quality as x100s by looking at your review and sample images.
Which one do you recommend between x100s and X-M1? Because X-M1 is USD250 cheaper compared to x100s in my country (btw, I am fine with no EVF feature in X-M1)

Nasim, Thanks for the wonderful review. Currently I own Nikon D5100. I’ve been looking to add a mirrorless and almost made my mind on XE-2 until I read your review on XM1. I primarily photograph my kid who is 20 months and also do some nature photography. Photographing kids is a challenge and need quick focus. Given this, should I go for XM1 or X-E2? Thanks much!

Hi Nasim. I have been reading lots of review sites and only recently found yours when I started seriously looking at buying a new camera. I was especially interested to see that you changed from Olympus OM-D to Fuji X-E1 as I was considering both cameras and eventually ordered the OM-D. That was before I found your latest reviews and seeing what you are achieving with the Fuji cameras. I am now considering cancelling my order and getting the X-E1 instead. I am thinking of getting the X-E1 and maybe later adding an X-M1 body. My main aim after 28 years of shooting just for fun is to try and see if I can get images sold via some stock agencies. I am not into action photography, mostly landscape, portrait and architecture, do you think the X-E1 would be the better choice? I can get the X-E1 with the 18-55 lens or the 35mm lens at roughly the same price. For the same price again I can get the OM-D E-M5 with 12-50, 45, and 40-150 lenses.
Cobus, I liked Fuji better than OM-D, because I really liked the image quality and the feel. My OM-D E-M5 has been collecting dust ever since I got the X-E1.
If I were you, I would check out the X-E1 with the 35mm f/1.4 lens.

Hi Nasim. Thanks for yet another comprehensive review. Can you post some information about the landscape photos associated with the review of this camera? For example, were these the result of multiple exposures blended in post? Were they taken using the camera’s HDR feature or using extended DR? And lastly, what was the primary lens you used to capture the landscape photos?
Jose, none of the images were taken with multiple exposures, blending or HDR (I am not a huge fan of HDR). All post-processing was done directly in Lightroom and it did not take me more than a couple of minutes per image. As for lenses, I used a variety of them, from the 16-50mm and 18-55mm zooms to primes like 14mm f/2.8.
If HDR were not overdone, would you then be a huge fan? Overdone HDRs looks like junk, I agree, but “natural” HDR is the stuff of my existence. In the Fall, I can shoot trees with the sun directly behind and get great shots people seem to love… lots of drama and color. I’ve also shot HDR panos and it get lots of attention on the websites I support.
Peter, absolutely! In fact, some people utilize different blending methods along with HDR and make some stunning images. Those are quite rare though!

Nasim,
Thanks for such an in-depth review! Not only did you make it a breeze to read but also managed to provide pictures which reveal beautiful subjects – that only a photographer can visualize through his viewfinder, if only we could explain that to other review sites that just like to shoot brick walls, benches, & lamp posts, lol. Oh well *shrugs*
