Judging by these photos, I must get that 110 f/2 for my new 50S II … which kidney do you want, right or left?

Those are the most beautiful photos with the best image quality I’ve every seen! Are these photos straight out of camera??? Or did you use post processing? So the autofocus (especially face and eye detection) is good enough for portraiture? Amazing test!

Hello Nasim ,
I always appreciate your insight on the gear and beautiful photography! I shoot with the GFX 50R and LOVE it! Have you made a “Recommended Settings” article on this camera. I would love to copy your settings. Thank you,
Alex

Not a question about the camera as such, but computers for it! As the files are very big, does that make a difference when downloading them to a disk? Would you recommend buy a new/better/bigger computer for people who buy this camera?

I am still waiting for the Hasselblad digital back. Wonder other then the NASA very soon when it will be available. Guess you pointing out the 9k to 4K kill it.

I just took the plunge to GFX world and picked up a used 50R with an extra battery for 2599€. That is a real bargain compared to Sony A7R4 which costs over 4000€ new here in Finland. My initial findings reflect Nasim’s findings especially considering the buttons and ergonomics. But, the image quality is almost as good as Pentax K-1 pixel-shift and that is with *one exposure*. I will adapt some used Pentax 645 manual lenses to this later while trying to do with 50mm WR for some time now.
For example A-version of Pentax 645 35mm f/3.5 SMC costs pennies compared to modern Fuji lenses but is actually a very good lens.
I would like to mention that the focus bracketing feature is absolutely superb addition to the kit. I can now just focus to nearest foreground details and let the camera to do the rest of the job – something I have to do manually with my Pentax K-1. Then I finish the stack with Helicon Focus. Suddenly a “normal” lens becomes much more useful and stopping down beyond diffraction barrier is not needed. This, of course, undermines the viability of fully manual Pentax 645 lenses a bit.

Impeccable photography…the system delivers, the optics exquisitely addictive…..What a people! beautiful and culturally enriched. Is it Iran or Uzbekistan?
Thanks for this, Nasim. While the GFX system sparks my curiosity, it is not a system that I am likely to buy into in the near future, since it doesn’t solve any photographic problem for my present style or subject matter. As a Nikon / Fuji X shooter, I am also put off by some of the lacunas (AF, ergonomics) which you quite properly mentioned. However, this is still a relatively young system, which Fuji will hopefully continue to develop and democratize. It will be interesting to see how it evolves.
As usual, the eye-candy accompanying your review (especially the people photos, and especially those of subjects wearing the more colourful outfits) was spectacular. Keep up the good work!
The GFX system has matured quite a bit since the introduction, but there are some things that Fuji has done that downright upset me – feels like more of an experimentation phase for unlabeled buttons, removal of dials, etc. I also hope that the next line of GFX cameras won’t have any of these problems, because it is otherwise amazing!

James, thank you for your feedback!
The images are from Uzbekistan.
Calling it cropped medium format is OK, but I prefer Macro Four Thirds as more descriptive. Just sayin’…
Jim, that’s not a bad name, I like it! :)
