I most would like to know where the landscape is at the bottom of this review (a cone-shaped mountain in the background, across from a lake or a river, possibly near Crested Butte, CO)? As for the review, maybe I should have bought that more expensive Sony camera (even with all of the new lenses I’d need to buy) I was thinking of rather than another Canon?

Typical inexpensive Canon RF lens design: Very light, very small, has good controls, has interesting features (macro in this one), great IBIS, excellent center sharpness from wide open, high vignetting, high distortion. Distortion isn’t a huge problem if corrected image angle is 24mm. This is a very inexpensive 24mm macro lens, similar to 35mm f1.8 macro. Well done Canon.
Canon has definitely embraced the “modern” lens design approach more than most companies – accepting optical issues like distortion, which can be fixed, while focusing their attention elsewhere like saving weight.
I think it’s a better approach than, say, making a “zero distortion” lens that isn’t sharp, like the Laowa 12mm f/2.8. But I do wish that Canon would focus more attention on lowering vignetting. It’s been a lingering issue on a lot of their wide-angle glass.

My apologies to our readers for publishing this review on Thursday instead of our typical Tuesday review schedule. I got a bit burned out this week, but it’s all good now. Next week’s lens review will be published on Tuesday as usual. Thanks for understanding!
I think everyone will forgive such a minor delay in return for you building the most comprehensive and comparable lens review database on the internet.
I think most people will be happy to wait for two more days for a high quality review, including a second sample measured. Your efforts are much appreciated!

Thanks, guys. Two copies of the lens, two extra days. In that context maybe it’s a good deal :)
