Summary
It might be an almost two-decade-old design by now, but the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS continues to be an amazing lens. Optically, the 300mm ƒ/2.8L IS produces extremely sharp images, almost free from chromatic aberration, distortion and corner shading. Its performance with teleconverters is very good, through not quite as good as Canon’s latest telephoto lenses. The lens also focuses very fast and accurately, has amazing bokeh and handles very well. The reality is that this lens is still one of the best fast aperture telephoto lenses available today and considering its current street price, I feel that giving the EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS USM my highest recommendation is a no-brainer.
