If you take the bus both L1 and L2 stop at the gates of the zoo. Alternatively you can rent a bike from the Bikeshare service stations. If you are coming in your own transport, parking on site is $22. Please note that there is a lot of walking involved and since the zoo is located on a hill, it gets tiring very fast.
Photo Spot Details
One of the best things about Washington D.C is countless number of public attractions. A day trip to the zoo is a must, especially if you have a soft corner for giant pandas. They are quite shy animals so you will have to be quite patient to catch a glimpse of them. The zoo is very well maintained and has a huge collection of animals, birds, fish, etc. The descriptions are very vivid and detailed. A proper trip can last hours and sometimes you need to come back for a second time in order to cover all the attractions. A good mid range zoom will cover most of cages, while a fast prime will help you capture images in the indoor sections which can be dark at times.
