Directions

From Narayangarh (Bharatpur), a major town in Mid-Nepal, Sauraha, the main entrance of the park is about 17 kms southeast. You get good hotels and lodges in Sauraha and they arrange elephant safaris which is the most convenient means for exploring the wildlife within the park. You can also opt of jeep safari. A tele lens is must.

Established in 1973, Chitwan National Park is the first national park of Nepal and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. Covering a core area of 932 sq. kms (360 sq miles), the park is famous for its density of the  great Asian one horned rhino and also features a good number of Bengal tiger.  It is equally famous for it bird population with more than 543 recorded species. The park also features marsh mugger crocodiles and the gharials.
