I was browsing the internet looking for a place to visit on a weekend with my family when I chanced upon this very interesting place, a national historical site and so there I went, checking out the place. It is about an hour drive from Calgary, a very smooth drive taking Highway 2 south then right to Highway 540 along Cowboy Trail, can't miss the place as signs are visible in strategic places. Along the way are ranches making you feel like a cowboy. You will be in awe when you get there, as you will be able to see the whole ranch with the rockies in the background.

Photo Spot Details

The Blacksmith Shop is just one of the old buildings inside the Bar U Ranch, a National Historical site of Canada. It was built in 1910. Inside the shop are interesting pieces of shoeing stuff and repair equipment used in the early days. There are a number of historical buildings in the area, each has its own story to tell. A picnic area by the creek is also provided for families if you want to have an outdoor lunch or barbecue with your love ones. Lots of activities to choose from.

The ranch is open from 9am-to 5pm and anytime is a good time to take photographs though it maybe a little too harsh between 3 and 5. Spring to Fall for me are the recommended season to visit the place.

In this image I used Nikon D610 and Tamron 24-70mm F2.8 lens @ 24mm, ISO 100, f5.6, 1/250 sec
