Nikon Still Shipping D4 with Sony 16GB XQD Card and Reader

While the first batches of the Nikon D4 cameras included a free Sony 16GB XQD card and reader, it was reported later on that the new shipments of the D4 did not include the card or the reader. Early speculation was that only the initial shipments to Nikon Professional Services (NPS) members included the XQD card and the reader.

Sony 16GB XQD Card and Reader

Today, I received my D4 and included inside were the card and the reader, so I called the store where I bought it and was told that Nikon is still shipping some with them. They said that their Nikon rep indicated that there is no different part number or special order number differentiating between camera only and camera with XQD card bundle. The representative indicated to them that he does not know when or how the card/reader promotion will end.

It appears that there may be an inconsistency in how Nikon is handling the Nikon D4 shipments. For now, I can confirm that some of us are still receiving the Sony XQD card and the reader, at least here in the US.

We will have a full review of the Nikon D4 within the next few weeks.

    Hi Tom,
Very nice to get a new D4 and glad you were lucky and recieved the new card and reader as well, against the cost of the camera it’s not that much cost for Nikon and makes a big difference for the people getting them.
I look forward to your review, I do have 1 question though – when did you place your pre-order? I ask only as I have one on order as well (but was quite late ordering – only at the start of Feb) and so far can get no information on when I might recieve my order so it would be good to know how close I might be getting to the front of the line.
In the mean time, happy shooting and try not to get it eaten by a bear like one lucky guy!

    Kind regards,

I placed the B&H pre-order at the end off the first day. However, that one did not ship yet. I got lucky with Pictureline in Salt Lake City, they got one in (I was on a pre-order list there as well) and I was able to purchase it there.

        Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. Not having received your order from the first day? There must be one heck of a back-order list for this camera. I hope that mine comes before the London Olympics, but I won’t bet on it.
I look forward to seeing your first photos from this beauty.

        Kind regards,

I do not know how it is possible, D800E is abundantly available in India. And that too cheaper than Dubai or Singapore. Nikon India gives 3 year warranty also. I got my D800E last month.

I received my D4 yesterday and it also included the XQD package. I was pleasantly surprised. Note that I ordered my D4 from Amazon in mid-March. I was surprised to get it so soon. Thank you Amazon!

Congrats Steve, let us know what you think of it as you get acquainted with it.

I ordered mine one week after press release, got it on the 12th of June – 4 months of waiting, and I’m a NPS member – no XQD reader or card. Seem that no NPS member here in Sweden got the XQD card or reader. And I was high up on my retailers list, which is the largest camera retailer in Sweden. I was on the 8th place on the list. Something tells me that Sweden ain’t that much of a priority to Nikon?

Wow Vincent, I am sorry to hear that. The good news is, I think you will love the camera!
