Nikon D600 $1679 Deal, Limited Availability

With the introduction of the Nikon D610 (see our preview and initial reaction) and its lower initial price of $1999, we knew that prices for the remaining Nikon D600 stock would plummet. Looks like Adorama is trying to clean up its shelves to make some space for the upcoming D610, so it has slashed the price of the Nikon D600 by a $420, bringing the price of the Nikon D600 body to $1,679! Previously, we have seen prices drop this low for a refurbished camera, but this one is for a brand new version. Other Nikon D600 kits are also on sale, as shown below.

Here are the current deals:

  1. Nikon D600 Camera Body – $1,679
  2. Nikon D600 Kit with the 24-85mm VR Lens – $1,899
  3. Nikon D600 Kit with the 24-85mm VR & 70-300mm VR lenses, bag, 32 GB card and WU-1b wireless adapter – $2,319

And if the $1,679 price tag is too high, the price of the refurbished D600 dropped under $1500.

    It’s only limited because they’re discontinuing it. Don’t expect the D600 prices to jump up all of the sudden now, will we?

      Peter, that’s because nobody wants to have the D600 in stock when the D610 will be coming soon…

        Exactly! (And agreed!) They’re cleaning stock! There’s no reason to keep making the D600 once the D610 comes out. The price difference (say $100-300 if the D600 jumps back up a bit) isn’t significant enough for it to be profitable and different enough from the clearly better D610. Unless the production costs of the D600 is significantly lower than the D610, Nikon would just make less profit by selling D600s which took a hard hit on its value with the mechanism problem.

        That and there’s just a good amount of negative word-of-mouth about that dust problem that it’s next to impossible market and promote the D600 well from a PR standpoint (other than by letting the model quietly disappear, which they seem to be doing). Nikon screwed themselves in the foot by not acknowledging the problem early, and this is from someone who had two copies of the D600 before just opting for a D800.

    As another prominent site points out…the D600 problems of old seem to be rare in the latest stock and at worst…yopu would only be out the time required for Nikon to service it if you got a “dusty” one. With the updates to the D610 being so relatively small, might be a win win for the person looking to go FF on the cheap.

      There are multiple reports of people who have sent their cameras back to Nikon several times, often paying for their own shipping, only to get a dusty camera back even after the shutter was replaced. I don’t doubt that there are D600’s out there without the dust issue (especially since I seem to own one), and Adorama is the kind of shop that doesn’t tend to keep inventory for too long, but I still think you’re gambling a bit in buying a new D600.

    Hey Nasim — That D800E price should be $2996, I almost had a heart attack when I read that, I was grabbing my wallet, finding my phone, clicking the link — thought I had won the lottery.

    With so many dealers getting burned on their D600 inventories,….some having to sell at cost or at a loss,I doubt that many of them will put in orders for a large inventory of D610’s until they see how things shake out. If I needed a D610 body,which I don’t,I would wait at least 4 to 6 months before buying to make sure that no major bugs were hiding inside.It used to be true that you could immediately jump all over a new Nikon release with no worries…..sadly that’s not true anymore.

    Like Many, I rushed out and bought a d600 shortly after they were released. It was a replacement for my aging d90 / and an old beat up d700 that I purchased very cheaply but died horrible death shortly after dropping it down a flight of stairs.

    Like many people, whilst the the d800 was a very appealing camera to me, I was a little put off by all the focus issues being reported. But what concerned me more, was Nikon’s attitude that despite all the complaints that were forthcoming, the issues didn’t really exist until it the groundswell of compliant was to great to ignore.

    So I waited for the D600, which I rushed out and purchased instead. This decision was based on the initial reviews and the cameras stunning images that were available to review. Well guess what, it also had issues that Nikon never really admitted to until some time after.

    When you couple this with the two SB900’s I had also purchased, that coincidentally also did not suffer from an overheating issue (but strangely enough were superseded by SB910’s), I think it’s fair to say that Nikon hasn’t really impressed me with their commitment to looking after it’s loyal customer base.

    In my opinion, Mr Nikon, if your products are faulty, then they should be recalled, repaired and or replaced.

    As it stands, I lost money on the SB900’s due to the well documented overheating issues by releasing the SB910’s which do not suffer from that issue (and which my old SB600’s do not have). Similarly, you have scuttled any chance of me obtaining a reasonable sale price should I try to resell my d600 given you have knifed all D600 owners by releasing the D610.

    I could maybe understand your approach if the items I purchased were cheap low end products. But the SB900 were your flagship strobe, the d800 a professional camera and the D600 at $2300 is not a cheap low end camera either.

    It’s not to late, recall your faulty products and start doing the right thing by your customers. even now I would be prepared to give you a chance and afford you another chance to earn my respect if you did the right thing!!! You have taken my money, but you’re about to loose my loyalty to the brand!!

      Guys a quick update on my previous post.

      As the spots on my d600 got quite bad, I decided to take the camera into Nikon’s service center. To my surprise (and to their credit) they took the camera, replaced the shutter mechanism and cleaned the sensor for me. I’ll keep an eye on the dust issue to determine if it reoccurs.

      Regarding oils spots / debris on your D600 – My advice would be if the spots are an issue, take your camera into the service centre as they will probably do the right thing if it’s within the warranty period.

      Re My SB900’s – well that’s a different story.
