Nikon Z8 Pre-Orders Open, Shipping in Two Weeks

The Nikon Z8 is set to ship on May 25 for a body-only price of $4000, and pre-order links are already available from most major retailers. There is also a new battery grip (the MB-N12) shipping later this month as well. Here are the pre-order links:

  • Nikon Z8 from B&H for $3996.95
  • Nikon Z8 from Adorama for $3996.95
  • Nikon Z8 from Amazon – shows “currently unavailable” but you can add to your list
  • Europe: Nikon Z8 from Calumet for €4599
  • Europe: Nikon Z8 from Wex for £3999

And then the battery grip:

  • Nikon MB-N12 Battery Grip from B&H for $346.95

Nikon says that the MB-N12 battery grip has the same level of weatherproofing as the Z8 itself. It is dedicated for the Nikon Z8 and accepts two Nikon EN-EL15 batteries, boosting battery life by 80%. It has a joystick, AF-On button, two command dials, and a vertical shutter button.

Considering Nikon’s recent history, the Z8 will likely be backordered initially, so pre-ordering is the smart move if you want to receive yours quickly. Photography Life will get a small commission if you buy the Z8 through one of our affiliate links, but frankly, I recommend setting up a pre-order from multiple locations (especially local camera stores) if you want to get yours as quickly as possible!

I'm Spencer Cox, a landscape photographer based in Colorado. I started writing for Photography Life a decade ago, and now I run the website in collaboration with Nasim. I've used nearly every digital camera system under the sun, but for my personal work, I love the slow-paced nature of large format film. I ordered the Z8, I’m excited about this camera. For landscape photogrpahy, how does this stack up against the Z 7II? I’m guessing there isn’t going to be a siginificant difference just for landscapes, but probably a big difference for landscape combined with wildlife photography over the Z7 II.

It should actually be a nice upgrade over the Z7 II for landscape photography, just not in terms of image quality, where the two cameras are practically identical.

In my Z9 review, you can scroll down on the first page to “Features Overview” and then “3. Landscape Photography” to see my thoughts on the Z9’s improvements in this regard: photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-z9

Other than GPS, everything I say there should apply to the Z8.

Thanks for the reply Spencer. The Nikon Z7II creates beautiful images, I couldn’t imagine needing anything more in terms of image quality. I am looking forward to other features the Z7II doesn’t have that the Z8 does. Thanks again, and I’ll take a look at your Z9 review.
