Do you gentlemen have any initial comments about traveling with the D850 vs. the Z7? As an enthusiast, I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

Wenzell, any specific concerns regarding the D850 vs Z7? In terms of weight and footprint, the Z7 is much better in my opinion. Image quality is stunning, and the new lenses are all superb. Spencer and I have already moved from Nikon DSLRs to Nikon mirrorless. Neither of us have any regrets.

Nasim, that brings me back to your reply to an email I sent you about upgrading from my ancient D7000. It’s good to hear your endorsement of mirrorless systems. Given your article discussing how Nikkor DSLR lenses can’t take advantage of the D850’s resolving power, do the Z lenses have better resolution? And does it matter if you can only make prints at 300 dpi?

Wenzell, if you check some of the latest Nikon Z lens reviews, you will notice that I spend some time talking about lens performance on Z vs F. Basically, every Nikon Z lens is made to resolve a ton of detail, whereas many of the older Nikon F lens designs are already outdated for high-resolution sensors. See the 36K panorama that I posted with the Nikon Z 85mm f/1.8 S – that’s the type of detail you can expect from these lenses.

In regards to 300 dpi prints, not sure what you are asking. DPI does not determine resolution – it is the final size of the print in combination with DPI that’s important.

I was trying to ask if you could see a difference in image quality between an F and Z mount lens in a print? I guess I am confused about the limiting factor in image quality, which I thought would be the printer’s ability to show the difference between F and Z glass, in a controlled setting.
