London Photo Walk Highlights

Big thanks to our readers in London that came to participate in our London Photo Walk on Wednesday, May 14. Although many could not make it due to work, conflicts and the fact that we did it during the week, we had 24 people join us for the photo walk! It was an amazing experience for me personally to get a chance to meet our readers and photograph the beautiful and the historic city of London. Although I ended up only taking a single picture at the end of the day (yes, the group did get a good laugh at that!), I absolutely loved getting to know each and every person from the group. Here is a group photo of us right before we started the photo walk:

London Photo Walk 2014

NIKON D5100 @ 23mm, ISO 100, 10/1250, f/5.6

We had a very diverse group, with beginners that recently picked up their first DSLRs, to veterans with 20+ years of experience. It was a great opportunity to share knowledge, learn and exchange ideas while have fun shooting the busy streets of central London. From Trafalgar Square, we walked towards the Strand, then walked on the Waterloo Bridge and ended up walking along the South Bank at sunset. For dinner, we picked a restaurant close to the Waterloo Underground Station and consumed the traditional English meal, fish and chips.

I was blown away by the hospitality and generosity of our readers. Even those that could not make it posted comments and sent me emails about the best places to visit in London. One of the photo walk participants, John Cannon, even offered a free ride in a Black Cab for me and my family! Thank you John, but you know I could not take advantage of your offer without paying for your services :)

If you are interested in visiting London and you want to get some tips on where to photograph, check out the comments on my previous Reporting from London and Photo Walk posts. You will find a lot of valuable information there and realize that there is much to see and do in Great Britain! Although I put together a list of places I wanted to visit, 3 weeks were just not enough…

I have not yet looked at the images I brought back with me, but will be doing so this week. I will post an article with some images from the trip and try to put together a list of recommended places to visit and photograph, based on my trip and feedback from fellow readers.

Big thanks to everyone who participated in the Photo Walk. You guys were all amazing and I really wish I could spend more time with each one of you guys! Five hours went like 15 minutes for me and perhaps next time we should plan for an all-day Photo Walk!

    Hi Nasim:

It was great to meet you in person! It was first ever photo walk for me! It was a memorable day. Thank you so much for sparing time for your readers despite you are on family holiday. We did not need more proof for your passion!

And thanks for valuable tips on that day. Hope we can meet some other time in the future as well.

I wish you all the very best on your new endeavor.

Thank you Nasim. Had a great time on the walk, as did everyone else. You will have to come back and do another one! :)
Thank you for adding a link to my photos. One of the group, Theresa, actually joined me again yesterday for another photo walk around St Paul’s, and I’d also like to share my photos from that if I may. I hope you got an opportunity to shoot around there too. It’s a fantastic place.

Next time we should plan for an all day walk and perhaps pick a different place to start off from! I had a blast being there with you guys and it was an honor to be there with amazing photographers like you. Your pictures from the second photo walk are stunning. Love the B&W images and the sunset pictures!

Once again, thanks for coming and being a part of the group!

      Hi AW,

Enjoyed your photos and really like your use of angles to add drama and interest. The skateboarder shot was a great use of reflection….and the B&W cab photo with its low angle perspective and slight angle created a sense of action.

Looks like you people had some awesome time! This is definitely my favorite photography website on the net.

Keep up doing the good work and love to see your reviews, for a long time i was thinking between the 70-200 f2.8 and f4 for my D600, but after reading your reviews, it’s going to be the f4.

    Thanks Nasim :)

    • May 22, 2014 at 5:12 pm

Dennis, thank you for your feedback! The 70-200mm f/4G VR is amazing, especially when traveling and hiking. Don’t bother with the tripod collar, unless you will be using the lens for landscapes.

Nasim, thanks for organising such a great evening! Was great to finally meet you, and the rest of the readers! It was really my first time talking to experienced photographers and I picked up loads of great tips from yourself and the other readers, some of whom were seasoned veterans! All I want to do now is go back and do some more photo walks!

I really appreciated that you took time out of your holiday to meet up. Thanks again to you and all the guys and gals that turned up and were so free and kind in sharing their knowledge!

Nasim, what a handsome group of photographers. They sure look ready for action! :-)

I’m happy to read that you and your followers had a splendid time on your impromtu photo walk – in the midst of your family vacation, no less. Bravo, Nasim!

I viewed the photos in the links that were kindly provided by your group – they are lovely. I have yet to set foot on the British Isles, but it is on my wish list. :-)

    Welcome back, and Cheers!

Sorry I could not make it Nasim, but really glad to read what a great time you had on your visit, on our visits to the US (usually fly in to Denver for skiing) we get such a warm welcome, it’s nice to see it reciprocated for you. Hopefully if you make it back some time I can get up to the big city.

    Dear Nasim,

Thank you for taking time out from your holiday to walk about with us and share your knowledge.
Also thanks to all the other photographers who shared their tips and equipment on the day (I now need to spend some money!).

Here are a few snaps from the evening:

    Thanks again

      Hi Ade,

Enjoyed your images very much….love the lighting and composition of the right hand image in the second row…dream-like and has a futuristic feel. The right hand image in the third row is terrific…great balance achieved by the leading line of steps from the lower left hand corner and the contrast created by the triangle of darker tiles. The left hand image in the third row is just a great night-scape. Thanks for sharing.

Nasim, wish I lived in London. Would have loved to join up with that group. Great pictures everyone brought back memories of my last trip to England.

Nasim, I will be visiting my step son in August in Colorado Springs. If time allows for both of us I would love to be able to meet you in person.
