Lens Description: Thanks to its advanced reflex design and aluminum alloy construction, the 500mm f/8 Mirror Lens by Vivitar is an extremely compact and lightweight ultra telephoto lens. This manual focus, circular aperture lens will produce sharp focus on its subjects and wonderful background bokeh. A T-mount lens, it is compatible with any film or digital SLR camera via a T-mount adapter, which can be purchased separately. A 30.5mm rear lens filter comes included with this lens.

There is a mistake on the specifications, it says this lens is not compatible with teleconverters. I have the lens and it will accept any T2 mount teleconverter. I have a 2X Opteka that I tested with this lens and it works no problem. This will of course, make it extremely susceptible to any camera shake and a tripod is an absolute necessity. A tripod is pretty much required with this lens anyway, although bright daylight handheld shots are possible with the right camera settings.
My particular lens is a Vivitar series one 500mm f/8 with no red stripe. The serial number indicates (61) Samyang factory, made in Korea with a 9 as the third digit, this would make it a either a 1989 or 2009 year of manufacture.
The T / T2 mounts are available off Ebay at a reasonable price . I have 2 one Canon and one Nikon. They only about $10. each.
