Lens Description: An all-in-one zoom for APS-C cameras, the 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM Contemporary Lens from Sigma provides users of Nikon F-mount cameras with an extremely versatile focal length equivalent of 27-450mm. This version also offers optical image stabilization for reducing the effects of camera shake at longer focal lengths and slower shutter speeds. The lens also has a maximum aperture range of f/3.5-6.3 and benefits from the inclusion of one SLD and four FLD elements. Additionally, a Super Multi-Layer coating on the elements results in less flare and improved contrast. Utilizing a Hyper Sonic Motor for autofocus ensures quick, quiet, and accurate focusing, all the way to the lens' minimum focus distance of just 15". A lens hood is included with the lens and it is compatible with Sigma's USB Dock for installing firmware updates and adjusting focus.

I agree. Picture is very soft at the long end. We went on a canoeing trip just last week, saw and shot lots of wildlife, birds, loons, moose, etc with this lens only to be very dismayed at the quality of the pics. No poster quality wildlife pics with this lens…
It did make a decent travel lens for city life, though.
good at close up but starts falling short above 150mm by the time it max out at 300mm the picture is soft
.also found out that the lens seems to start to blur slightly but it might be i got a bad one ?
the feel of the lens itself is good for a budget lens and can with stand knocks and bumps including a meter drop to floor (thanks daughter)
if you want a budget zoom of 300mm this is it if you willing to except the bit of blur and drop off at the top end but better still save the difference and get a Tamron or Nikon 300 mm lens if you serious and planning on using it a lot otherwise you pay budget price get a budget lens
