I was very lucky – I bought this lens secondhand for 180 dollars – I am thrilled with it. It is very compact, quick to focus on my D7100, and sharper than I would ever expect from this kind of do-it-all superzoom.
I found that the VR worked very well, too. It is a lovely do-it-all lens I would say; yes extremely useful for what I do which is event photography for a local newspaper, simply because you can switch from wide to tele without having to change lenses.
The quality of the images is very good too – very crisp and contrasty. I couldn’t be happier
