It would be helpful if users mentioned their serial number range when discussing these. This is 1 of 3 different optical designs of the FL 50 1.4 and the early 6-4 formula which has Thorium Oxide which tends to turn a noticeable burnt amber in color.

On a Crop Sensor an “extremely soft and murky” result clearly indicates a defective lens, and if it actually was a 6-4 then it must be “ambered”. If not it sounds like haze/mold

Fantastic little lens, although when I shot below f/2.8 I found that the image came out extremely soft and murky mainly in anything that was white or had a light colour, I found that even on a crop sensor that shooting f2.8 is wide enough and still gives fantastic dof and bokeh
