Last week I spent a couple of days birding in Madera Canyon, southern Arizona. My hope was to get photos of some of the highly sought-after borderland species that aren't normally found farther north in the US or Canada. Overall, it was kind of quiet, however I did have some success. All comments welcome.
Red-faced Warbler
That darn distracting stick just behind the warbler's bill kept this image from really standing out. The curved lower branch adds character to the composition.
Varied Bunting
This bunting species usually affords only fleeting glimpses, so I felt lucky to have this one perch for a few moments on a fallen log.
Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher
This flycatcher species is normally high on every out-of-state birder's target-species list when visiting Arizona. I found a pair carrying nesting material into a nest cavity...awesome!
Nice shots! I was there last year and also found the Red-faced Warbler but not the Bunting or the Flycatcher you found. I loved it there, it was great! Did you see the Elf Owl?
@jpolakphotography I didn't do any owling on this trip, maybe next time. I usually visit Madera Canyon 2 or 3 times a year.
