Has anyone using Sony mirrorless cameras had problems with sensor dust, please? More than when using DSLRs or other mirrorless cameras?
I’m a Nikon D500 shooter, looking to get a lighter-weight camera for when I don’t want to lug my 3kg camera bag around, and was intending to get the Sony A6700.
However reading the Phoblographer's review of the a6700, he mentions having to clean the sensor a couple of times, and someone commented on it that he’s having to clean his A6700’s sensor every week. This’s giving me pause for thought, as I usually only have to clean my D500’s sensor with a rocket blower once a year, rather than once a week.
If you are using a Sony mirrorless camera, particularly the A6700, how often are you having to clean the sensor for dust, please? And if you previously used a DSLR, did you find you had to clean the sensor more after switching to Sony, please?
Hey @westcountry, welcome to our forum!
It's not just Sony, but any mirrorless camera that doesn't have a dust-protection curtain will be more prone to dust than a DSLR. The sensor is simply more exposed.
Having to clean it every week is crazy, though - I don't know if that photographer lives in the Sahara Desert or what. I usually clean the sensor before a big trip and afterwards. This is true on the Sonys I've used as well as the Nikon and Canon mirrorless cameras.
I haven't used the a6700 yet specifically, but I see no reason why it would be any worse than the earlier cameras in the a6000 lineup that I've used.
