Starting with Login, I'd really like to get rid of the 2-factor authentication. It may be useful for new members to make sure they have a legitimate email address and are not a spammer. But once someone has made 10 posts or so, I would like to see it turned off.
Subscribing to receive emails in response to a post or a thread being followed requires email confirmation. I'd prefer to just use the check box and turn off that confirmation. If it's a regulatory issue, add it to the text for subscribing to the topic and replies.
When I receive notification that there is a response to a post I've subscribed to, the notification simply says "New Reply" or "New Topic" in the subject line. I get far too many emails that all look the same until I open the email or a preview. It would be great if the Topic was shown in the subject line so I could eliminate duplicates without having to open them.
Going forward, keeping down the number of sub-forums is always a balancing act. Given the choice, it's better to have too much in one sub-forum than to have too little fresh content so that it looks stale or inactive.
Consider some sort of weekly email that lists the most active topics from the past week. It's a good way to stay in touch and build engagement.

I keep looking for a preferences menu, as I'd rather turn off email altogether. I prefer to log in with the system remembering me and quickly scan 'unread' for content that interests me. I would really like something I click to be truly unread rather than going to the top of a discussion that has unread posts starting somewhere near the bottom.
@ericbowles, those are great suggestions, thank you! I'll see what we can do.
The 2 part is not bothering me because I tell the system to remember me on log in and I guess I must stay logged in, because I click my bookmark to enter the forum and I don't need any log in or verification, I'm just ready to go. I don't enter via email links though, so maybe that is a difference.

Eric, I agree with Spencer - these are all great suggestions, and I will certainly look into them. The biggest challenge is custom code that takes time to write, test and push into production. I will need to see if there is something out there that perhaps does exactly what you detail without much effort from my side. So far, I haven’t been able to find much, which means I will need to probably figure it out on my own…
By the way, there is an easy way to take care of the sign-in issue. Just use the built-in password tool in your Mac, or if you use a PC, a browser extension or third-party authentication tool like Authy that will take care of the sign-ins for you.
