It is a pain honestly to have to enter the verification code from email message every time I log into the site. Is this something that will last for a long time?
It's a workaround, but I noticed if you click the remember me when logging in you can enter the site and use the notifications to read responses and so on with logging I every time.
The site remembered me for a while, but then forgot, and I had to go through the whole process again. For some reason the default window for signing in does not open with my new ID and email, but the old one that failed to work, so I have to remember to change these, and then go for the code, which also did not work the first time. I seem to be back on now, after three attempts. I do hope this can be improved eventually. And I have a sinking feeling I forgot to check the "remember me" box this time. Uh oh.
@formerly-bruto you might try clearing your cookies for the site in your browser settings.
@bleirer , good point there. I tend to forget the cookies, and that might well be why I get the wrong default sign in. Still, though, the authentication procedure is rather clumsy, and I can't quite figure out why some numbers fail to work and others do. Ah well, so far it's at least possible to get back on, and I've stayed signed on at least for today, which is nice.
The forum itself seems to be working OK and is a good bit livelier than it was for a while.
I would love to get rid of the two-step verification process, but unfortunately, as soon as I do it, we get immediately hammered by spam bots. Last time, I had to clean up 30+ posts from spam bots...they are ruthless. The only thing that keeps them at bay is the two-step verification, which they have not been able to bypass...

Then by all means keep the 2FA. Spam bots / fake accounts / trolls are way more annoying than having to enter a code ;-)
I do sort of wish the forum would remember us for a little longer. I've gotten used to the 2 step verification, but it's a bit of a nuisance. One of the oddities here is that it does not seem to accept a copy and paste of the number. I did this and it insisted on a proper format, so I erased it and entered exactly the same number, and here I am. My memory for numbers is like a sieve that's been shot at, so I have to write it down.
But if that's the price for keeping the spammers out, then there it is.
Keep it forever. It really is not that tedious. If it means no crashes, no harm to the site and less admin work for the Mods it has to be a good thing. at least it's brave new world and not 1984 ;-)
@formerly-bruto copy and paste works, but you have to look for blank signs, if you have one, it is not working
I also don't understand that we are kicked out of the forum after a short time, also if setting is "remember me" , that would be the simplest solution.
regards Reinhard
@reinski "Remember Me" works for a while, but not for terribly long. Initial problems with the browser remembering the wrong email address and password seem to have gone away, and copy/paste now works, so the process, while mildly irritating, is no longer a real issue.

I also find the two step authentication very annoying. This is the only forum I visit where this two step thing is required. So I’m curious how other forums keep these bots away / out? Are there any other ways to keep them out?

For me was hard enough because I did not receive the numbers of the code but I received mails which told me that code was send. I believe it was an internet failure or something like that. With calm all were over and nearly forgot those moments.Thank You.
