There was a short talking about light stars in a picture. In general light stars distract from watching a picture intensely (this is because of human eyes look at the brightest light on a photo). I had done this too, a light star is a high light in a picture I thought for years. After many years (and watching zillion photos) I started to avoid star lights in my photos. I post an example I personally like a lot (it is a picture from a small village in Italy). It is taken with f9 and a 24-70/f2.8.
Maybe I am old fashioned with avoiding star lights, I don`t know.

Maybe that is a thing as well .. you see so many similar images / photo-techniques online and (the use of) sunstars is one of them. So yeah I guess you have a point - at least avoiding sunstars is going against the flow and being a little bit more unique :)
