It doesn't seem to matter what postprocessing software I use, I need a slider to take my picture from what I actually took to what I should have taken. Case in point, I climbed down in a ravine to take this:
When I got home and went to edit, I realized I totally missed this shot (And IQ looks like poo if I crop this far):
Got any shots you look at in hindsight and go "....dammit...."?
Self criticism is in many ways okay. But do not overact because you may go back and take the photos you wanted, It is a nice scenery,

@ineluki I don't take myself or my photography too seriously. When I do something "dumb", about all I can do is shrug, laugh about it and learn from it. I'm sure others have done the same and it can be instructive - and amusing - to commiserate.
If all you ever see are "perfect" pictures on the internet, you can fall into the trap of thinking it's only you.
Got any shots you look at in hindsight and go "....dammit...."?
Indeed.. but as it sometimes happens that I got also very good surprises afterward, I keep on ignoring the fact.
This happens to everyone at one time or another.
Maybe "pleasantly surprised/happy accident" can be its own thread, to balance this one.
(Like my goofy macro boats)
Indeed ! :D
On the subject of hindsight, my wife and I went to the lakeshore to take photos last weekend.
On the way home, we both said "We should have brought the drones..." 😡
Classic. I looked at this Trillium from several angles, but couldn't get the distracting tree out of the frame.
When I opened it in Capture One to clone it out, it occurred to me that, if I had gently moved the flower to the left, and then forward, I could have put the damned tree BEHIND the leaf... Captain Hindsight strikes again!
@bo-gussname 🤣 Sometimes we forget that we can actually do something to get what we want, because we can't see the forest through the trees anymore due to our hyperfocus on the idea stuck in our head.

From the "I should have" files: There is an ancient wooden shed behind a house near me. It is almost completely covered in vines. It's pretty neat and I kept thinking I should "do something" with it, but could never figure out what. I tried some quick shots from my truck the other day, just to see what I might make of it, but my camera apparently hated shooting through my windshield. Focus was crap. That's ok, it was just a recon, to see what the possibilities might be.
Yesterday, I went by....and the shed was gone. It's been there for YEARS and just when I finally notice it and start thinking about how to shoot it....they finally tear it down. 😡
