Hi I’m trying to find a good software to edit my raw photos.
I don't intend on becoming a professional photographer and as such would rather not invest in more expensive software like Lightroom.
I have read some article like this: pctechtest.com/best-raw-photo-editors and find 2 free options - RawTherapee and Darktable, but not sure about that.
Is RawTherapee or darktable any good? Does anyone have experience or suggestions ?
As there can be different plateforms (OSs) and different "best" solutions and so answers for them, can you tell us more about what's yours : Windows, Macos or Linux ?
My experience with both is that they're very open source in all senses of the phrase. They're free, they're hackable, but the user interface is not polished and they don't quite do what I want.
There are plenty of people who use those two programs however, so it's a matter of taste. Maybe if you'll try it, you'll find you like it.
Best is a matter of perspective though. I would suggest trying different programs out and see what works for you and your workflow.
I used Nikon's raw developer for years since it was simple and worked well enough for what I cared to bother with.
It's a bit like asking "what's the best camera?" There is no such thing, but we can make statements about the popularity of a particular application (or camera). And best will depend on what you're trying to do.
I use darktable!
