This is a shot from Watkins Glen, in upstate New York, looking down from a bridge. It's a beautiful area by the finger lakes, definitely worth a look!
Not everywhere drinking water is available easily. You can find many of these typical draw wells in the dry and salty Pannonian plain. They are built for providing water from deep below ground for the living free herd of cows.
