Size matters - it's always surprising, how big the difference in size could be.
What a surprise, if you want to drive away and you find your car like this ;-)
It was surprising, how high this racer was flying with his bike above his colleagues.

It was a surprise for me, that someone can fly with a kayak and even more surprising, that the guy did come back to the surface again.

"Wild Solstice"
Being approached by a wild horse while watching the sunset during the summer solstice was a bit of a surprise!
I usually post only one picture for a theme but this one was a big surprise too. This wild young swan was interested, posing and very wary at the same time :

I thought my camera was 3D tracking a kayaker, and surprise, I got this.
Nikon D300 + FX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G @ 300mm, ISO 800, 1/2500, f/5.6
I had to dive deep into my photo archive for this one.... but during my first hike of the Billy Goat Trail in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park (camera in hand, of course) I noticed some small movement on the ground from the corner of my eye. I decided to investigate further, with the hope of photographing something interesting. The movement was away from me, so I followed a number of steps, until I got closer to a big boulder. Then, all of a sudden, something showed up from behind the boulder and froze me in my tracks. I was still able to take a few quick snaps, after which we both went our separate ways:
