Have you ever had your attention snagged by a random scene, and the reason turns out to be that the scene echoes a famous painting?
I had one of these back in June. I was wandering in Agassiz Dunes Scientific and Natural Area (western Minnesota), and came across a circle of small bur oaks. Something about it compelled attention, and I spent a while shooting it from different angles, and thinking about returning there to capture it in different lighting.
It wasn't until I was looking at the images from that trip the next day that I figured out what had caught me. The circle of gesticulating trees, some at crazy angles, was echoing the Matisse painting(s) The Dance. Now I want to go back there even more...
Has anybody else had an experience like this?
