Anyone else drop the %1.6K USD or so on this new lens? Ordered from my favorite local camera store hoping they stay in business over the long haul (love B&H, but... that is NYC).
Next question: ships Augus or sometime next year?
Yep, order's in. I hope I can be part of the first wave but that would be a first for me with these high demand items.
some will ship August. How many? Who knows...
Well, there you have it: ordered in June and picked it up four months later. Work has kept me from really doing much with the lens. However, I'm starting to see that it is clearly better than my old Sigma. Not that the Sigma was bad, but it is an older lens now.
Focus is a more accurate and snappier on my Z7ii. Much less focus breathing. Actually the sigma has a different focus motor so it is more like focus chattering ;) The Nikon is very quiet by comparison. Also noticing the image quality is better - especailly all the way out to 600mm. Internal zoom should help next time we are in central america. (Got "bit" once with a zoom waking from our frozen room out into the humid air. The 3 toed sloth I was shooting looked like it was smoking something recreationally.)
Loving the fact all my filters fit the Nikon. Polarizing filters at 95mm is a bit eye watering. So is the 15X filter I got for eclipse photos.
Only issue is the Nikon is a little longer than the Sigma making it a tight fit in the backpack I use. Not looking to upgrade either. Luckily everthing does fit - just less extra room.
Now to get a little time off my day job to take pictures of something more interesting than the moon!
"... at 95 mm is a bit eye watering... " , because of its price I suppose !
Yea, the Nikon is 2x the cost of the Sigma. Better lens - but 2x? Well, I bought it so I guess that is that.
I just couldn't see the value in the Z 100-400. I rented one to see if it was worth the 3x Sigma price. I guess that one didn't fit how I use the camera - but I do know some local photographers that ooh and ah over the 100-400.
