I have a question, and the answer is probably obvious to most of you, so I apologize for needing to ask in the first place. My Z8 shipped earlier this week, and the auto focus is great, noticeably better than the Z7II (still a great camera).
With that said my Nikon Z8 is setup to use back button auto focus. The back button AF-ON works fine with single point auto-focus. However, back button (AF-ON) does not seem to work with any of the continuous auto focus modes. Essentially, what is happening is when I use the AF-ON only, the focus points stop moving/tracking the subject and the focus points become static. The camera will focus after the focus point centers itself in the box (whatever mode I am using), but it won't track the subject.
Again, this is only a problem when I use back button AF-On exclusively. I don’t have this problem when I use the shutter release button to focus and take a picture, the camera tracks subjects as expected until the photograph is taken.
Does anyone know what is happening? Thank you.
I figured this out. I don't know what I initially did when I set up the camera, I probably activated a setting by accident and didn’t realize it, but I have since reset all my settings and continuous auto focus with AF-ON is working exactly the way it's supposed to. This is a great camera.
