@nightjar

I would say yes, but those extra 3mm do make a big difference if you love ultra wide images or shoot a lot in tight spaces. I personally don't like the effect myself (images appear too distorted for my taste but it might be my technique). Some people seem to get great images at 14mm.

The 14-30mm also collapses down to a more packable length though the width is larger.

It is also all Nikon if that bothers you at all.

You can't go wrong with either lens really, they are both great. Both have their pros and cons.

@maranoblet I'm aware of that, but since I've never had a lens wider than 24mm so far, that doesn't concern me too much.

And the "rebadged Tamron" stuff doesn't bother me, either - I already have the 28-75mm and I'm quite happy with it.

D5300

D500

D850

Z9

I really should thin out this collection a bit but the D500 has been a faithful and reliable companion on many adventures and the D850 opened up the world of full-frame magic.

I have a variety of DX lenses but the only lenses I use at the moment are the:

24-70mm f/2.8G ED

300mm f/4E PF ED VR

500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR

and the old faithful 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR

And all I want for Christmas is a 200-600 Z!

@CMCM

"It would be fun if our user profiles had a way to list all our equipment like was on DPR!"

I agree it would be, the beautiful minds here have probably considered that.

@nightjar This is very useful. I can see myself doing something very similar in the future!

I own a D500 but planning on adding a Z9 in the future. Except for my first DX lens, I have invested in good used FX lenses so that I can continue using them once I get my second camera. I also own the 300mm f/2.8 G VRII, the very portable AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED, and the 105mm f/2.8G Macro. I love them all.

I recently found a good used AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED and am impressed; really learning a lot with it.

Hello All,

New here but have been shooting off-n-on for the better part of 20'ish years.   I have always been a nikon OVF guy and use the following as often as possible and as necessary:

D4, D700, and D300

I shoot almost exclusively with manual lenses so:

15mm 3.5 Ai-S

16mm 2.8 Ai-S Fisheye

20mm 3.5 Ai-S

35mm 1.4 Ai-S

55mm 1.2 Ai

85mm 1.4 Ai-S (considering selling this)

105mm 2.5 Ai-S

135mm 2.0 Ai-S

200mm 4.0 Ai-S

300mm 4.5 Ai-S ED-IF

300mm 2.8 Ai ED-IF (considering selling this too)

I do have one AF lens, a 58mm 1.4g.  After learning who designed the lens and for what purpose I have become a big fan of Haruo Sato and his latest prime lens offerings, esp the 35mm, 58mm, 105mm.  I have been considering getting the 35 and 105, but just not there yet.

I am still old fashioned. I have a D6 and a D4. Though I have also a Z6 I still use the DSLRs. Old fashioned ;-)

Shooting with a DSLR doesn't make you old fashioned IMHO. I prefer to use DSLR's for very specific reasons most of the time. It's a design choice, not age choice ;)

I have a mix of Nikon gear including, in order of acquisition:

F100 - for film work, a few rolls a year.

D600 - 590nm IR conversion, primarily used for landscape BW work.  Converted when the D750 was purchased.

D750 - Holdover DSLR, keeping it because it has a pop-up flash and is easy to hand to an inexperienced person at a party to get a few shots.

Z6 - First venture to mirrorless, got me hooked!  Used often in lower light and for macro, focus stacking.

D850 - First high MP camera, paired with the 500PF and the 105mm f/2.8 Macro and the venerable 70-180mm D Zoom Micro, long out of production, for flower photos.

Z9 - Current primary for landscape and wildlife work.

I have large hands, so the D850 and Z9 are the first bodies I have owned that do not feel like toys in my hands.  I have to mentally adjust and sometimes use a tripod when working with the smaller bodies.

Dailybuse lens include an all Nikkor lineup including F-mounts:  14-24 f/2.8, 24-85mm, 24-120mm, 28-300mm, 105mm Micro, 70-180mm Micro, 500mm PF, TC14Eiii

Z-mount lenses, All Nikkor,  include: 24-70 f/4, 70-200 f/2.8, 85mm f/1.8, 100-400mm f/4-5.6, 105mm f/2.8 Micro, 50 mm f/2.8 Micro, 800mm f/6.3, plus both the 1.4 and 2.0 Z TCs.  Also the FTZ1 adapter.

Love my Nikons and am not going anywhere else.

As an ancient holdover, I have a couple of 1970s era Minolta mount lenses and an old manual bellows (45 mm f/2, 28mm f/2,8, 50mm f/1.7, 135mm f/2.8 plus a TC2.0, and a Vivitar 400mm f/5.6.  All work fine on the Z6 with a Metabones adapter (spacer with no electronic connection).  With this I can take adantage of the maual focus highlighting in the Z6 to get nice shots.  My Minolta film bodies all bit the dust years ago, but the Z6 plus adapter works just fine with this gear.

There are no plans to thin the herd.  I do this purely for the fun of it all!!!

I am using a Nikon D7200 which I find to be a more than adequate camera for my needs.  For lenses:

Nikon 50m f1.8

Nikon 70-200m f1.4

Tokina 11-16m f2.8,

and a couple of kit lenses which don't get much use.

I sometimes feel this leaves me in the dust as far as camera advancements are concerned. But at this point in my journey as a photographer I have decided that my skills need more focus that my equipment.

I have a second D7200 body, for which the autofocus no longer works - the result of a dunking in a lake, which may be a story for a thread on 'embarrassing mishaps with cameras'.

@3percent Nikon speaks only about the mirror less  line. Almost every day it announces a new Z lens.
