So I recently picked up a "like new" Z7 as my first mirrorless as well as an FTZ II - and the little 28mm f/2 SE lens (because it's cute as heck!). I took out a bunch of my F-mount lenses to experiment and found that what had been my absolute favorite lens EVER (my 70-200mm VR II) just doesn't render color very well in the Z7 without a lot of (what feels like) heavy-handed manipulation in LightRoom, particularly adjustments to temperature and tint, but also to highlight and shadows.
I'm a hobbyist with "dad" level of experience, so I'm not really able to figure out what's going on here on my own, just that in use of this lens with my previous cameras (which I still have - a D610, D7200, and D850) this lens was stupid-easy to use and gave lovely images.
On the other hand, my older 35mm 1.8G, 300mm af-s, and 24-70 VR II work wonderfully and seem to get the white balance correct without issue.
Any ideas what's going on here (and saying "nothing, you just suck" IS a potentially valid answer)?
Thanks!
I'd say, before looking for more explanation, shoot some more raw files and process them with Nikon NX Studio to compare and ensure it's not a problem with your raw processing software (bad lens profile application, for instance) and so, you may konw better if it really comes from a problem of lens/camera compatibility.
@prg-lagarde Thanks - I think it's fine. Went back out today and shot around some more. I did use a different focusing method (dynamic area today versus auto-area). Got results much more in line with what I was expecting.
Glad it's looking better, @dkord91! The other thing I would suggest is taking an identical photo (same camera settings and tripod position) with the lens on your D850 and your Z7 immediately one after the other. Then, do the same with the other lenses that didn't give you this difference in color. That should let you pinpoint if there's a clear difference in the first place, and further, if any difference in colors is confined to this lens.
