Update, I've finally received the camera, along with the 24-120, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, and 20 1.8. I considered getting the 14-30 but I have some pretty good astro opportunities where I live and I wanted the 20mm for that. I haven't really gotten a chance to take out the Z7ii for an extended period and put it through its paces, but having taken it to a family event and taken some portraits and a few photos in different lighting situations, here are my initial thoughts:
1) The extra resolution is immediately noticeable from my G9. There is just so much more detail and the images are generally just a lot cleaner. A lot better at handling higher ISOs which I knew but it's really stellar.
2) The 50mm 1.8 is as sharp as they say. Great bokeh IMO, as well.
3) I like the way the Nikon handles, it's not as perfect in the hand as I consider the G9 to be but it's a lot better than the Panasonic S5 I use at work, and noticeably lighter than the S1R (though the latter has a great grip for my hands).
4) Eye-detect is quick and accurate from my brief experience. I'm still getting used to the new focusing system though, and if anyone has a good recommendation for where to learn the ins and outs I'd appreciate it.
5) I also did a bit of video of the event I was at and the focus handled pretty well, very few times where it lost focus (though I was shooting at F8 which helped).
I'm looking forward to going out on a proper landscape shoot and testing out the dynamic range of this camera and using more of the 24-120, but so far I'm very happy with the purchase.
