I love my original Panasonic G9 but I hear there might be a new one coming out...does anyone believe that? And if so, what would you want with it? (Besides the obvious PDAF...)
Hi Jason,
First, I appreciate your writings A LOT. Not just the gear stuff (although you and Nicholas Hess are the only MFT users on here) as much as your approach to nature photography and thoughts about honesty in photography. But this is about gear...
I was upgrading last summer after many years of point and shoot cameras, and rented a G9 and a couple of nice lenses. Loved it, and decided to commit to the MFT system, but went with a used G95 instead. The reasons were weight and budget - along with the fact that I felt the G9 was more camera than I really needed at this stage. No regrets on that choice.
But in my GAS-y moments, the most interesting camera upgrade is the G9 II. Reasons: 1)The body (and apparently menu) layout is *very* similar to the G95 (and I prefer the G95 physical layout to that of the G9). 2) The only major camera behavior getting in my way is focus hunting when I'm trying to quickly get a critter shot. The G9 and G95 both do that. 3) I've learned a lot in the last half year, and might eventually benefit from some of the other advanced features on the G9 II.
But this is going to wait a while; the G95 is working great.
