What do you recommend as affordable, say under $2000, EF lenses that are still top performers when used on R bodies. What resources can you recommend for researching them to find the hidden gems?

From my initial list, I only kept two

- EF 135mm F/2

- EF 100mm F/2 USM

I used the EF 70-300 F/4-5.6 IS USM II for a while but ended up selling it. Though, it's really a good lens for the price.

I have the 100mm 2.8 macro, the first one,  which I like a lot. What about telephoto? I'd love the 100-500 but have the EF 100-400 dust pump, but it is still lacking not only in reach but can't help thinking in sharpness as well.

First - Which R-body?

From EF lenses if you want telephoto I would recommend

Canon 100-400 L II IS used, sharper than 100-400 EF

Sigma 150-600 Contemporary, but you would need to tweak it because of pulsing AF.

Or then why not go with RF lenses on R body

100-400 - much lighter and sharper than EF or go

100-500 L IS - the sharpest than all of these lenses, only if you would raise the budget.

RF primes

600mm or 800mm are under 2000 too.

And if you want more reach you should buy teleconverter 1.4 or 2.0 EF,RF.
