Just starting out with landscapes not to mention black and white. I did a lot of dodge and burn on this photo to get the look I was after. Is it too much?

@photofan, I knew from the title of this thread that I would like this photo! Desert landscapes are really evocative in black and white. You captured a great scene here, and I love what looks like the snow on the mountain in the distance.

In terms of dodging and burning, it doesn't look like too much to me. If anything, I think you could do further burning of the clouds at the top of the photo to create more of a spotlight effect on your subject.

@spencer Thanks for the feedback. The cliff face just jumped out at me when I first looked the photo on my PC. Even though I had to do a lot of cropping to get the composition right (the scene is pretty far away) the dodging and burning is what really makes it work in black and white. If I darken the clouds more it might also provide some balance with the dark foreground.
Appreciate PL so much. This new forum is great.
