Hi, I’m trying to decide between the Nikon Z6III and the Z8, but I can’t see any real reason to justify the extra expensive. The 6 is also newer technology?? I’m looking to use it on safari. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Dan,

Both would make a great camera for safari. Although there are a number of smaller differences, the biggest differences between them is resolution (45 vs 24 megapixels). Depending on what lenses you are bringing and what you are most interested in photographing, that extra resolution could be handy to crop into smaller or more distant animals. That being said, the z6iii is great, and the smaller resolution gives it a slight edge in higher ISO settings, which happen on safari a lot. Hope that helps!

@adam-sheridan thanks for your reply. I'm looking at the 100-400 lense, as I feel a fixed prime lense will limit the versatility. I don't want to be changing lenses. As it's a walking safari, I don't want to carry too much...

There is also the issue of ergonomics, with the Z8 being larger. Try to hold both cameras in your hands to see which one fits them better. For some, the Z6III could feel too small.

@dan72 The 100-400 would be a good lens for a wide range of things on your safari! And Darin is correct that the ergonomics are definitely different - some prefer the smaller feel of the Z6 and some prefer the bigger handling of the Z8
