Use your editor of choice to downsample the image, or export from your raw developer at a lower resolution / higher JPG compression.
@andyfrog , a quick and free program that's good for this is Irfanview. It's a freeware program that's very nice for viewing, and for changing size, resolution, color depth, file type, etc., including batch operations. Operation is reasonably fast. Not much good as an editor, but makes a dandy default file viewer and reads NEF files natively with correct exposure and the like, which not all viewers do.
