Nikon Z8 Announcement: A Mini Z9 for $4000

Nikon just announced their long-awaited Z8 mirrorless camera, which aims to essentially mirror the flagship Z9 in a substantially smaller and less expensive body, just $4000. With the Z8, more than just a few features are trickling down – it has essentially the same specs as (arguably) the best mirrorless camera ever, yet costs $1500 less.

Nikon Z8 Official Sample Photos

Alongside the announcement of the Nikon Z8, Nikon also released 22 sample photos, most of which have full EXIF data. I’m publishing all of them below, alongside some crops to show performance at various ISO values (although there aren’t any surprises given that the camera shares the sensor of the Z9).

Hands-On Images of the Nikon Z8

We’ve gotten our hands on some hands-on photos of the Nikon Z8 being used in the field. This should give you a sense of the camera’s size, shape, weatherproofing, and illuminated buttons. In practice, it’s about the size of the D850 (a bit smaller).

Nikon Z 26mm f/2.8 Review

For this review of the Nikon Z 26mm f/2.8, I’ve tested the lens extensively both in the field and in the lab. This is one of the smallest, lightest full-frame lenses ever made, and not just by Nikon. But how does it perform?

Sigma Announces New Lenses and Nikon Z Availability

Sigma just announced three new lenses for various camera systems (L-mount, Sony E-mount, and Fuji X-mount) as well as announcing that three of their existing lenses will be added to the Nikon Z system. It's a total of six lenses - all branded as "Contemporary," with a mix of full-frame...

Bad Weather Makes Good Photos!

Last week, there was rain in the desert. I was so surprised to visit some of the driest places in America – Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Canyonlands, and more – and see them under storms and fog rather than the blue sky. It’s not “good weather” by most definitions, but it was perfect for landscape photography.
