Mimi, unfortunately, the rebates are only good for DSLR+lens combos. Lens rebates do not happen very often with Nikon. There might be something closer to Christmas time frame, but I’m not sure.
You can use craigslist for new lenses as well as other camera gear. There are a lot of guys who buy new lenses, never to use them again. You can get almost mint condition lenses for cheap.
sm, craigslist is nice for used gear that you can pick up locally. But be careful when purchasing expensive cameras and lenses in craigslist and do not forget that warranty does not transfer no matter how new the camera/lens are.

1) 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II – проблем с качеством не было. То, о чем говорили на Интернете, на самом деле оказалась абсолютно безвредная часть линзы (пластик), что никаким образом не влияет на качество изображения. Я купил себе 70-200 VR II и я очень доволен покупкой.
2) 24-70mm f/2.8G – может и будет, но не скоро (еще года два минимум). На данный момент лучшая оптика с VR пока что у Nikon 16-35mm f/4.0 VR.
3) 24mm f/1.4G – скоро дай Бог будет, как только появится на продажу в США :)
Я тоже очень хочу 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II. 24mm f/1.4G вроде бы уже обещан для заказа на Адораме в апреле. А после ваших сэмплов с 16-35mm VR очень сильно задумался по приобретению 24-70mm f/2.8G. Хотя мне показалось, что резкость и геометрия у него очень достойные. Да плюс – не люблю я темные стекла. Было бы у 16-35mm VR не 4, а f/2.8, даже бы и не думал. Честно говоря очень удивлен, что они не сделали стекло, аналогичное каноновскому.

По поводу 16-35mm, не смотря на то, что оптика f/4, есть VR который компенсирует несколько стопов. Если сравнивать 16-35 с 17-35, то я бы даже не смотрел на 17-35…
Мне 24-70 очень нравится, но порой очень хочется все поместить в один кадр и 24мм многовато получается. Плюс к этому, 24-70 на 24мм оптически слабовата по сравнению с 24мм у 16-35. Но с другой стороны 16-35 сделана из пластика и в этом отношении ее не сравнить с 24-70мм. И еще, я бы на 16-35мм сразу надел бы фильтр, так как она “дышит” также как и 17-35mm f/2.8D. Хотя пыли у меня на 24-70мм собралось достаточно много, не смотря на то, что фильтр с нее почти не снимал :( Позвонил Никону и пожаловался, а они мне сказали что пыль гарантией не покрывается. Это после того, что заплатил $1,699 за weather-resistant оптику…
По поводу языка, пишите конечно по-русски :) Слава богу я его еще чуть помню :)))

Интересная информация про 24-70. Уж думал, что у него железный корпус и пыле-влагозащита. Да уж. В этом плане к оптике олимпуса претензий нет, особенно к ТОП-ПРО серии. Вот с тушками у них засада. Е-3 явно не тянет на флагманскую камеру.
А кстати, если не хватает 24 мм, то почему не 12-24/2.8? Его вон даже в космос запустили.
Да, чего то в раздумьях насчет 24-70. Но альтернативы нет, похоже. Честно говоря объектив в пластмассовом корпусе покупать не хотелось бы. У меня бывают нестандартные ситуации.

Вы имели в виду 14-24/2.8? Да, 14-24 конечно супер оптика, но фильтры не принимает…а для пейзажей без фильтров никак.

У Кокина вроде бы такая же система, да и сами фильтры бюджетные. Наверно потому что пластиковые. А на Адораме или БиХе их можно заказать? Или надо у производителя заказывать? Чего то цен не нашел.
Я не знал что у Кокина есть filter holder для 14-24mm…
Cokin продается везде, включая B&H и Adorama, но не знаю там есть filter holder для 14-24 или нет :)
Насим, день добрый. По поводу Кокиновского holder для 14-24mm я уточню в одном магазине в Питере (С. Петербурге). Они утверждали, что есть две системы крепления: 1. через резинку, 2. на винтах.
А вот где купить Lee Filter System для 14-24мм я так и не нашел. То есть на эту систему получаются идут пластины не 100х100 мм, а 150х150 мм?
Lee еще пока не продает – фильтр только недавно вышел и его еще нет в продаже.
А по поводу пластин – да, нужно будет использовать именно 150mm, так как сам фильтр громадный.

However,seperately, Nikon D700 body only is $2399 and the lens is $1739, total of the two is $4148. I think the price after 4300 rebate should be about $3839. Can you help me with my Math? To really see the difference in pricing, you need to add the Nikon D700 + 24-70 kit to B&H cart by clicking the “Add to Cart” icon. It will come out at $3,884.90, which is a killer price for this combo!
I use the Nikon D700 + 24-70 for my landscape photography and portraiture and really love the results.

Pauline, the reason why they do not show the price right away, is because many resellers are not allowed to sell camera equipment lower than a certain threshold set by the manufacturer. That’s why the price is not reflected on the initial page :)
By the way, have you made the decision yet whether you want to go with Nikon D700 or Canon 5D Mark II?
Here is what I suggest:
If print size and video are extremely important for you, then go for the 5D Mark II, because it has more resolution and superb video capabilities. For everything else, the Nikon D700 beats Canon 5D Mark II in every regard.

I have read your comment on the newer model of D700 will be available in summer right after ordering the rebate combo.
I know that new and better gears are always on the way for more expensive price, but I am not happy already knowing that better one is coming so soon.
Do you have any information about the spec of the next Nikon D700(D900?)
Pauline, my comment is a guess and it is solely based on the Nikon release schedule in the past, so it is just a rumor and speculation. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it will happen. It might get delayed or a new line of products might be announced. Nikon keeps everything in secret until the day of the release.
Don’t worry much about your purchase – the D700 is a superb camera and it will last you for years to come. Newer gear will always be coming out and getting updated and that’s just how it is with electronics. It is the same thing as if you were to buy an iPod today…you know that Apple is going to release a newer model soon. But does it mean that you will wait for months just to buy the newer model? :)
I have been using my D700 ever since it was released and I love it. Even if a new D700s/D700x or whatever new line is released, I will keep on shooting with it, because it is a superb camera. I only wish that I bought it at the current price, because I paid $3K for body only.

One more thing, if you re-read my comment about the D700 update, you can probably tell that I said so just to make the reader feel a little better for selling his D700. Originally my comment was “too bad that you sold your D700″, but since he already did it, I wanted to cheer him up a little, otherwise he would hate himself for doing it even more.
If you still do not feel good about your purchase, you can cancel your order with B&H or you can return it to them – they will take the camera and lens back and refund you the money.
