Our team at Photography Life is happy to announce our new Nikon D800 / Canon 5D Mark III Facebook giveaway! We are giving away a brand new Nikon D800 or a Canon 5D Mark III DSLR (your choice). This giveaway is open to anyone, not just US residents.

Photography Life Nikon D800 vs Canon 5D Mark III Giveaway

To enter the giveaway, click the above banner or follow the following link to our giveaway page:

Photography Life Nikon D800 / Canon 5D Mark III Giveaway

If you have a mobile device, please use the following link instead:
Photography Life Nikon D800 / Canon 5D Mark III Giveaway (mobile)

Here is how to enter this contest:

  1. Visit the giveaway Facebook page
  2. Click “Like” to reveal the entry form. If you are already our fan, the form will automatically appear.
  3. Type your email address in the form – we only need it to contact you so that you can claim your prize.
  4. Once you click “Enter”, you will be entered for the giveaway. Only 1 entry per person.

Some restrictions apply to non-US participants:
Some countries have tax and other regulations for camera equipment, while others are extremely expensive to ship to. While we will do our best to ship the package internationally, if the cost of sending the package is extremely high or if there are other complications, we will have to give a choice to the winner – either to pay for all the extra expenses, or accept a $3000 gift card from our trusted partner B&H Photo Video.

We will announce a random winner on October 1, 2013. Good luck!

I will not participate in something that gives my friends list and other facebook information to a third party

    • July 26, 2013 at 1:46 am

Marty, I made sure that this giveaway does not obtain any information aside from the list of your friends – it only needs that list to make sure that you get credit for any friend that participates. That’s why when the prompt comes up, it only asks you for this – it does not require your personal information, access to your apps, personal records, etc.

Please look up Woobox when you have a chance – most large companies use them for these kinds of promotions.

Nasim, The reason I was always against the Patriot Act is that once released, learned, taken, borrowed, needed, etc., information will be save and eventually used.

I think you and all the author-photographers are great. I’m a long-time amateur, just upgraded to a Nikon D800 and 24-120 F4 lens. Will visit China (favorite country) and Tibet for 2 or 3 months in 60 days.

Need a second lens. Would like a second camera but do not like or trust the any of the phone or social media sites.

‘National Security Agency’ is now asking all the media websites for our encrypted ‘safe’ not-to-be-revealed passwords.

        • July 26, 2013 at 4:40 pm

Dick, trust me, I am with you on that one! I don’t even have a personal Facebook account – I use an account for business purposes only.

After all the feedback we got from our readers, we removed all the requirements . It should not prompt for any private data anymore, except for an email address (which we need to get in touch with you).

Well, in that case you don’t get to participate unfortunately…it is a Facebook contest done specifically to increase our social media presence. We will do other contests in the future, but this one in particular is for Facebook only.

B, I understand your concern and I have to tell you that I don’t have a personal Facebook account either :) As I have said before, we are doing this to increase our social media presence and as you already know, Facebook is the biggest of them all!

As a business owner, I remain unconvinced that it’s somehow preferable to target “sub” groups of potential clients – at the same time risking the Good Will and loyalty previously developed in one’s existing base. When spending time, money and other resources to widen my reach I want not only to touch new markets, but also solidify current ones. Further, I think “referrals” from real friends (as opposed to unknown-social-media-“likes” are worth as much, or more! There are quite a few of us who love your work, and would love to be included in this sweepstakes, but are automatic losers becuz our friends, and potential new customers for you, are real, and not computer generated. Worse!!!, it comes on the heels of your recent message encouraging financial support. I am only one person, don’t have a petition or proxies for 100 others. But I really think this should be corrected immediately to be all-inclusive.

      +1

First I love your site and the all the info it contains. But I too feel disappointed that I cannot be entered in this contest since I refuse have anything to do with Facebook. And what makes matters worse is that I just recently purchased 2 new Nikon 70-200 F4’s (one is for my wife) and a 24-120mm F4 from B&H using links from this website and always use your links for all my B&H purchases.
By the way, I was able to enter Thom Hogan’s contest last week and I did not have to use Facebook to do so. Even though I consider your site one of the best on the web, I may have to evaluate which site I will use on my next purchase.
      Regards
      Art

      • July 26, 2013 at 4:45 pm

Art, I agree – I also do not have a private Facebook account (deleted mine a while ago). We are doing this to increase our presence in social media and as you know, Facebook is huge.

But here is a tip for you: create a fake email address, register a fake Facebook account and participate :) It is a hassle, but it works and you won’t share any private data!

    • July 26, 2013 at 4:44 pm

Shane, you said it and we listened! Thank you for your feedback. I changed the system, so it is no longer asking to access private info or friends. You are right, we don’t need junk entries :)

I think your website is the best photographic websites that I have found and I take you and your group of contributes advise all the time. But I have to agree with other comments, that non- Facebook users are being discriminated against. I value my privacy and social media web sites are not of any interest to me.
I hope you will considers us non social media users in future give-a-way programs, if not you may lose loyal viewers. Since you have asked for financial support via contributions and using your link to various vendors you might want to rethink this current and future give-a-ways.

    • July 26, 2013 at 4:46 pm

Patrick, why not have a fake Facebook account with no private data? Please see some of my responses above. I know it is a hassle, but you could go as far as doing the whole thing anonymously. Again, the idea is to increase our social media presence – that’s all!

Nasim, I’m sorry, but if you listened to me perhaps I wasn’t as clear and concise as I thought. Perhaps your response was intended for another writer. I was advocating for a no Facebook requirement. Period. No hassle, no fake identity. Just straight entries permitted by all the friends/clients of your site. This would in no way inhibit your potential for expanding into social media, but it would put those of us who are “face(book)less” on equal footing.

How many photo blobs that you know will response to user comments like Photography Life. Nasim and his team deserve our support! If social media makes you nervous, then do not enter the drawing. It’s about choices.

You can choose to visit this web site or not. You can choose to join FaceBook or not.

I choose to visit this site on a regular basis. I choose NOT to join Facebook. My choices mean I cannot enter the contest. I’m okay with that — as it was a choice.

    Hi Nasim,

Thank you for organising this contest. I’ve been following your website and truly enjoying it.

I tried to participate. After I click like on Facebook icon and entered my email address and pressed enter, there was still a form asking me granting sweepstakes app to access my friend’s list and profile.

Reading the above, I thought this has been turned off. Could you kindly please confirm this is the case (i tried to enter on 30th july – Australia time). If I press cancel on the request from sweepstakes (but after I input my email address and press enter), am I in for the contest? Thank you!!

Keep writing please, your website is very insightful.

    Cheers

I really wish you guys would stop with the Facebook requirement… Facebook is down right evil. Being REQUIRED to “Like” something is just lame.

I hit your site at least daily and I love it. When making a purchase, I always click through your site to get to BH and Adorama, so you guys get a cut of the profit. (just picked up a Nikon 14-24mm based mainly on your article).

So to be clear, here is what I don’t “Like”… Facebook.

    • August 1, 2013 at 2:58 pm

Cooper, I understand your concern and trust me – I am a big hater of Facebook myself. I closed down my personal account about 2 years ago and never looked back. In fact, I forced everyone in my household to shut down their Facebook accounts and I preach my relatives and friends to do the same.

However, given that Facebook is the #1 social media site and has the majority of the world in it, it is not a platform that we can continue to ignore. Believe it or not, but we have many visitors that read our articles through Facebook. They like the fact that they get notified real-time when an article is posted and they like to stay in one place to ask questions, engage in discussions, etc. And there are many people like them that we have not yet reached.

So despite my personal feelings about Facebook, it is a monstrous platform that we have to be present in, if we want to continue growing the website. As of today, more people visit Facebook than Google and this trend will continue to grow even more. So you have to understand that from our perspective, it is basically a necessary evil…

Those of our fans that do not like Facebook can simply register a fake Facebook and Email accounts and use them these types of giveaways. You could even use services like hidemyass.com to protect yourself completely during this process. We are not asking for a real name or a real email address – we just need some email address that we can contact you through if you happen to be the winner.

      Thank you for your support!

  23. 45
    ) Shane
    August 1, 2013 at 10:13 pm

Some may not like Facebook. Some may just not have it. Others may not be permitted to have or use Facebook. Some never used fake id’s to get alcohol when underage. Some just don’t feel right about making up fake identities. It’s dishonest.

Someone earlier said its just about “choice” and named your customers as the choosers. Not entirely true as you readily admit you chose to make this an exclusive Facebook game. And could choose to just open it up to all your clients, by whatever means, Facebook, email, whatever. Really your choice.

Is anybody really objecting to inclusion of Facebook folks and their “friends”? Why in the world could you not have just also permitted the non-Facebookers to play? It’s win-win! You recruit & include Facebookers, and you impress the remainder of your existing followers by being all-inclusive. How could allowing your existing followers to be included POSSIBLY deter Facebookers from playing too??

All this tension is about some folks being EXcluded, no one seeming to care about the newly
INcluded. It really should not be necessary for you to have to chose between categories of clients, and risk alienating a fair-sized segment.

    • August 1, 2013 at 11:57 pm

Shane, yes, I understand. But the platform I use for the giveaways does not allow me to do both Facebook and non-Facebook users. I would have to somehow maintain a separate list of non-Facebook users, then include them in the drawing. If there was a way, I would certainly do it…

its a random give away people, its not about who will do the most outrages thing with the camera, i wanna win too, i need it for college and probably a lot of other things but its a random give away, dnt see me winning anytime soon, but its better to try anyway since theirs no harm in entering, shout out to photography for the nice give away, they didn’t have to do this i hope they give away another 5d mark iii in the future, maybe i might win that one.
