And the Winner Is…

Yesterday’s Nikon vs Canon vs Fuji in a studio post was a fun one. We have received close to 100 responses from our readers (with the Facebook fan page combined), most of whom gave a wrong answer! Well, granted the game was totally random and there was just no way to tell for sure which one is which. Except for the Fuji, I think, which I kind of gave away a little talking about its great skin colors.

We had a total of 6 readers that gave the right answer and I had to pick one random winner among the six – the person will receive the Westcott 43″ Collapsible Umbrella Flash Kit with Stand, a great off-camera flash photography kit!

Westcott 43" Collapsible Umbrella Kit

So, which image was shot with which camera? Here is the answer:

Image #1 shot with the Canon 5D Mark III:
Nikon vs Canon vs Fuji #1

Image #2 shot with the Fuji X-Pro 1:
Nikon vs Canon vs Fuji #2

Image #3 shot with the Nikon D800:
Nikon vs Canon vs Fuji #3

And the lucky winner is…(drums rolling)…Comment #50 – Jennifer Gartside! Congratulations Jennifer, we will be contacting you shortly to get your address.

If you did not win, do not be disappointed – this is just a teaser to our upcoming giveaways. We will be doing some really cool giveaways and contests soon with some great prizes! And by the way, if you are not our Facebook fan, you would not have known that my post from yesterday had a prize with it! So if you have not clicked that “Like” button, now is a good time to do it. Our upcoming giveaways and contests will be to increase our Facebook presence, so this is a good time to become our fan :)

    Why Facebook?
I hope you will not leave out us that are older then 16 and don’t use that c***. C’mon Facebook, really?!

    • Redone, the idea is to promote our social media side and add more readership. There are millions of people using Facebook today – people visit Facebook more than Google. That’s why we want to do it.

If you do not want to participate, you could wait for our photography contests, which will also have prizes. But first, we will do some social media stuff. Also, if you do not want to be a part of Facebook with your real name, you could always sign up for an anonymous email account and get an anonymous account at Facebook as well :)

I’m an e mail type guy- too much drama with the other sites. Don’t ignore us when you run contests, please. You’d be amazed at how many vendor cites I have been alienated from because all their contests require facebook membership. And they send me the notice via e mail!

    • Paul, please see my comment #10 above. I understand your frustration with Facebook, but it is a big source of potential readers and our goal is to expand our reach. We will be doing other contests without involving Facebook and Twitter though.

    • Paul,I agree! I do not like facebook. Everybody is either gossiping or doing stupid, childish things like revealing all their personal information, making it possible for criminals to victimize them, also some people have either been fired from their job or have been kept from a job because of their stupidity. I don’t want any part of making myself vulnerable to all the criminals out there just waiting to pounce on you and take what you have or in some cases people have even been tracked down and murdered because of their daily gossiping – it’s just plain S…T…U…P…I…D!!!

Facebook is apparently good for businesses – but it’ll bite most private users in the arse someday.
    Mark my words.

    • Marcus, I agree, it actually already has…

    ) B!

Am I being discriminated against because I’m not a facebook user?

I am a big fan of your site and truly admire the progress you’ve made in just a few years. KUDOS!!!

…but don’t stiff those that have or choose not to be part of facebook. Facebook is there to allow government to track it’s herd; not much else.

    • B, I hope you are not perceiving this as discrimination :) Seriously, if privacy is a concern, why not sign up for a free anonymous account with a fake email address? Facebook and Twitter are too big to ignore for us.

    • My wife told me that my comment sounded as if I am laughing at those who do not use Facebook. That’s absolutely not the case – I understand and respect people who stay out of it. I personally would never join Facebook if it was not for the website and the number of people that use it. I also have the same privacy concerns as many people out there.

Again, the goal here is to increase our readership through social media outlets. Whatever promotions we run, we will keep you informed over email/website as well!

        ) B!

I understand exactly why Facebook, Twitter, G+ are too big to ignore for businesses and sites like yours. I just ask that you don’t leave non-facebooker out of the good stuff and show preferential treament to others. Afterall, we are by no means a “lesser” fan just because we are not on facebook; just saying.

        • While we may attempt to venture out to sites like facebook and twitter to expand our reach for readership, we also want to let those who do not use social media sites, that we will not ignore or alienate you from future news and sweepstakes Mansurovs might offer. Thank you for being with us and sharing your insight!

    congrats to the lucky winner!
proves that even when you are right, you still need some luck to win.
facebook? counts me out, ’cause where I am the government blocks facebook.
again, if 94% of people cannot tell the difference between cameras, there is no need to spend megabucks. simply say no to the heavy marketing, and prices will reduce and focus will change to where it should be, on quality.

    • For 1024 wide pixel images, even an iPhone could have produced beautiful images with great lighting :) The big and expensive cameras make a huge difference when you want to print large and you shoot in less than ideal conditions…

I prefer to stay out of Facebook. That being said, I completely understand the need for any website to have a presence in social media. I’m glad you are continuing to expand the site.

Maybe I’m just stupid, but I still don’t understand why a contest can’t be set up to accept entries vie Facebook, Twitter and Email? Methinks there is discrimination. You aren’t alone. The ad agency for Hunter Fans does it, the agency for Husquavarna Outdoor Power Tools does it. What they don’t realize is they may gain some younger entrants, but they may also loose some genuine potential customers.

    Hi Nazim,

I can understand the concern people have regarding FB. Privacy, when we browse any website, is the greatest threat to all of us. I have set custom privacy settings, restricting access of content and information only to friends and family (who are living in a far away country) members on the FB.

When I log-in, FB automatically loads the secured browser (https://www.facebook.com). FB now uses a nice Verisign ssl. The best way of securing the site is to install the SSL at the root itself.

The secured FB is not enabled by default (to my knowledge, unless this has changed in the last one year). To enable “https” browing, please do the following:

Click —-> Accounts —–> Security (on the left hand side of the screen) —-> Edit Secure Browing —->Put a tick mark in front of “Browse FB on a secured connection (https) when possible —->Save—->Logout —>Login.

This settings have launched FB on a secured (https) browser in the last one year. This has always worked for me and my daughter!

Privacy Settings can be customised to ensure the content can be accessed by those who is given access by the user. BTW, I never any any “Apps” on the FB. It is set to “OFF” by default.

The following is my personal view as far as your site is concerned.

In my personal view, Mansurovs using FB is fair. Many of your loyal users of the site might not use FB to follow you. If you are offering contests on the FB, could you please make the same simulataneously available on the site as well? I do not follow you on the FB; chances are that I would never!

    One recommendation or personal suggestion:

Your site is growing. You might want to consider investing in secured browsing. It is pretty cheap. My personal choice would be a basic Verisign SSL.

In closing, I enjoy visiting your site. Please keep up the good work.

    Regards,
    Srini

Privacy is relevant not only for social network sites, where FB is just one of them though massive in size and depth, but also for browsing in general–be it shopping, reading, networking, and so on….We leave traces when we browse on the http://www…..Like we need two hands to clap, all parties (vendors, hosts and browsers) need to exercise care and show diligence as far as security and privacy are concerned.

Im sorry to say, but to those who are Facebook haters…you are the minority and whether you like it or not, social media is a huge benefit to business owners, and has done wonders for photographers as far as advertisement goes. You can fight it all you want, but when you are losing business to your competitor because you refuse to grasp the benefits of social media in this day and age, your going to think twice about it. Honestly, if you think that Facebook is something for only those under the age of 16, then Im surprised you knew how to open a web browser to access this site. Welcome to 2012, the internet is huge part of our lives today, as well as the many different social media that is available, its just as important as your cell phone, house phone, and vehicle that gets you to work everyday…fight it all you want.

Nazim, I really like the idea of using Facebook, and although after reading my opening paragraph, you would assume that I have a facebook account for my photography, but I do not, I only have a personal account which I will be more than happy to use to help advertise your great and helpful site. I will also be opening a Facebook page for my photography shortly, to go along with my website, Im missing out on a great advertising tool by not having one.

Thanks for the contests and giveaways, Im looking forward to them.

    Thanks,
    Jay

I’m astonished. I was pretty sure #1 was Canon (although I wish it were Nikon ;) ). It was clearly the best. However, like a lot of voters, I was POSITIVE that #3 was the Fuji, being clearly dramatically inferior. Sorry to see it was Nikon. :(

I guess I should have known given Fuji’s traditional SooC quality, especially with skin tones, and Nikon’s general blandness SooC. But in this case, #3 had a definite coarseness to the texture, which I guess could be a byproduct of the JPEG conversion and sharpening of the web-sized version. Still, disappointing…

My theory is that the D800 image would have looked better using Capture NX conversion from RAW. If you did JPEG SooC, there’s no excuse for Nikon, but if you used LR/ACR to convert, Adobe RAW conversion for Nikon RAW files has always been far worse than for Canon, relative to the vendor’s RAW converters.

My only thought when I look at those photos is not which camera is which, but “OMG she’s gorgeous….” LOL

  17. Wow….the Fuji colors are just out of this world!

I thought it was the Canon. But canon didn’t do bad at all

Funny canon was used to shoot the back side of such a pretty model ( no makeup i guess in the back)…..so no wonder the skin tone does not so nice with Canon if you look at the back itself….but her forearms and her face ( although not perfectly lit) show real nice and organic looking colour IMHO.

Glad I am not shooting Nikon right now… her leg looks like plastic.
